Babagnoosh is a sweet, laid back boy. He is a little on the shy side but is opening up more and more everyday. His foster family says he is one of the sweetest fosters they have ever had. It will take some time for Babba to warm up to new people but once he does he will be a VERY devoted family member. Babba is fine with other dogs, both large & small, and fine with cats and little kids. He crates perfectly and will "talk" loudly when he needs to go out. His foster mom says it is the funniest sound she has ever heard - it's as if he is trying to form actual words. Babba will do best with a fenced in yard as things still spook him while out on a leash. If you are willing to give this sweet guy time to warm up to you then he will be forever devoted. Babba would do best in a quiet, low-key home without active small children. Although he is safe with them, the energy seems to make him uncomfortable and he will retreat to the safety of his crate. |

Just Arrived!
Doc's Whipper, affectionately called Doc is beautiful red brindle. He is a
handsome boy who has a lot of energy. He almost immediately realized that
toys were for his personal entertainment! He does well with children and
seems to welcome their attention. Although right now, his sudden movements
might be a bit much for small children. He responds well to correction and
is learning that the kitchen counters are off-limits. He has a people
oriented personality, and loves to be with his family members. His
boundless energy and charm keeps everyone entertained and laughing. He is
currently learning the do's and don'ts of inside living and although very
curious is adapting well. He walks well on a leash but requires a firm hand.
What a great boy full of personality! |

Hank celebrated his birthday on Dec 28th the day he officially retired from racing. He is a super friendly guy that wants to be with people more than anything else. He walks wonderfully on leash because he just wants to be right next to you. This tall guy has lots of personality and couldn't be any sweeter. He crates quietly but needs another quiet dog for company because he dislikes being left entirely alone. Hank likes to go for rides in the car. He passed his small dog test and while initially a little interested in the cat responded well to correction and quickly lost interest. He should be trainable with cats with careful introductions and a few reminders on what is expected. Hank isn't comfortable in a home with the activity that comes with small children. This is a precious 'velcro doggy' who wants a quiet family to bond with. Owners who are home most of the time would be his dream! |

Polo boy has been a dream foster. Perfectly behaved in every way. Walks great on leash, picked up potty training quickly, great house manners from the start and very friendly and loving to everyone. His foster mom described him as a "Walmart Greeter" and says he greets everyone they meet on their walks like a long lost relative. His littermate is a therapy dog and Polo Boy would probably be an excellent candidate for that because of his easy going, tolerant personality. He is very good with the cat in his foster home and didn't even pay attention to a very small dog that tried to attack him on a walk. As perfect as Polo boy is he does have one problem. He arrived with a very small tumor on his foot. It was removed but is cancer and is likely to grow back in the next year. This isn't a type of cancer that is very painful or likely to move to other organs and kill him. It can be removed again when it comes back but each time it is removed it will harm more and more of his foot until he is likely to have to have his leg amputated. At this point he is not in any pain and has full use of his leg and foot so our vet has advised us not to amputate and let him keep the leg as long as he can. There is a chance that extensive radiation could slow the cancer down or stop it completely but that would be very expensive and the odds of it being successful aren't that good. Polo boy is looking for a special home that wants an almost perfect dog and won't mind if he ends up being a 3 legged dog at some point in the future. Amputations are pretty expensive and his family will need to be as sure as possible that they will be able to afford it when the time comes. Polo's adoption is being handled in a different way to help potential adopters with future medical treatment. (See note to the left!) If you are interested in helping this special boy, please contact GC Director Kim Owens. |

Ruff Ann is one of the lucky dogs in our first TriCounty
Tech class! Ruff Ann is not rough at all and is actually very sweet
and well behaved with the most beautiful gold eyes. She crates quietly and
loves people. She has a pretty high prey drive and tested NOT cat and NOT
small dog tolerant at the track so probably shouldn't live with any small
animals.
Update from her student!
This little girl has a beautiful black shiny coat and couldn't be prettier
with her unusual gold eyes. She is a happy, playful girl that loves people.
She is one that will climb in your lap any chance she gets for a snuggle. A
real loving girl! Ann has a high prey drive so sometimes mistakes small
animals for bunnies so should live in a home without them, otherwise she is
just perfect. Update 3.6.09!
Annie loves kids and absolutely everyone she meets. This stunning little
girl with gold eyes will crawl up in your lap to snuggle and you won't find
a more loving or sweeter dog. She has put on a lot of weight and is a real
beauty now with a glossy black coat. Annie crates quietly and is very well

Just Arrived! Buck is a calm but friendly guy. He is a very well behaved, tall beautiful guy with lots of dark eyeliner around his expressive eyes. Buck likes to go for rides. He crates quietly and potties on leash so would probably be very good in an apartment or townhouse or in a home without a fenced yard. Buck passed his cat and small dog tests with no interest at all so should do well in a home with either. His foster home describes him as an awesome dog who would be a great first greyhound. |

Mais Oui is a sweet girl with little cute, sassy moments! She's doing well with everyone in her foster home and is learning to be comfortable with the stairs. She loves to play with toys and all of her doggy housemates too. She's an easy girl who will be any easy fit into almost any household! Updated Description! 4.21.09~ May has settled into her new foster home very nicely. She walks very well on leash & potties on leash, crates well & loves to go on car rides. May can be an active girl & just loves playing with her toys, squeakies best of all!! She's gotten along very well with long dogs & 5 lb dogs in her foster homes. She can get a little protective of toys she's playing closely with tho so is learning manners on proper sharing. She's a small to average size girl at around 62 lbs & has a gorgeous petite face. We got to introduce her to stairs which she took in stride with a little practice. May would love to have 2 legged or 4 legged siblings to play with & a fenced yard or play dates to stretch her legs every so often. She is a social butterfly & enjoys going to meet & greets to show off her beauty & meet everyone that will stop to pet her. May also enjoys the quiet moments of snuggling on the floor & would fit into almost any home!! |

Marti is a sweet and affectionate little girl. She enjoys playing with her toys, napping, rolling in the grass and sunbathing. She loves to look at herself in the mirror and see how pretty she is! She is very good in her crate and is very quiet at bedtime. She has not had any “accidents” in the house and will come find you when she needs to go. She is extremely laid back and enjoys her quiet time. She is great with kids and other dogs. She is an all-around great Greyhound! |

would make a nice walking companion. |

Wonda has just arrived! She is a very sweet and
friendly girl who was known in her kennel for wagging hard and getting
excited by the attention she loves most from her humans. She passed
her cat and small dog tolerance test and shows very little interest after
being given a chance to sniff and check out the critters. Wonda is a
very small girl who raced successfully for a long and knew her routine well.
She wanted to race! She responds well to her name, comes when called,
and responds right away to correction when she makes a mistake. Wonda
has no problems with slick floors or adjusting to strange walkways and
bridges around her foster home. This is a intelligent, outgoing girl
that will make a great companion! |

she lived with for the last five years. She is now in need of a new family
to love her. They would surely agree that she should have been called
Honey, not only because of her stunning color but because she is one honey
of a pet. She is smart, sweet and loving and and has wonderful house
manners. She loves to play and has been wonderful with the 13 month old
granddaughter visiting her foster home over the

backyard, and has lived with a cat! The perfect dog for a family! |

Updated Description! 5.4.09~ Kara is a cute happy little girl. She is well behaved and tries to please. Kara has quickly learned house manners and has done well with potty training. She is very devoted to her family. She is pretty outgoing with most people and even more so once she knows you. Kara is so happy and waggy that she injured her tail wagging it and had to have it cropped 3 times before we finally docked it short enough that she couldn't hit anything with it and re injure it. Now she has a happily wagging tail stub. It really suits her though and couldn't be any cuter. Kara does have an unusually high prey drive towards other animals large and small. She has been able to be trained to live with a small dog and cat in her foster home with a lot of work and supervision but she would do better in a home with either no other animals or just other greyhounds. She needs careful introductions to any animal other than a greyhound and is gradually learning that she is not supposed to chase everything but each new animal is a new experience for her. She walks great on leash and potties great on leash. She has been very quiet in her crate in her foster home but when she was in a kennel situation she was pretty loud and would excitedly bark whenever a person came close to get their attention. We are unsure whether she would be OK in an apartment. Congratulations to the Calder Family of SC! Pending Day 6.2.09 |

Just Arrived! This little girl was released from a shelter near Savannah into the care of GC. She was never registered to race. We don't know much more about her history and haven't discovered which adoption group she originated from. We'll have pictures and more information soon. If you feel she might belong to your adoption group, please send us an email so that we can help explore further. Update from the foster family! Savannah was initially interested in the kitties, but quickly responds to correction. She also did very well with small dogs and the young children (3 and 5) in her foster placement. She is calm, easy-going, and loves to cuddle with her humans. She doesn't chew on items inappropriately, has great house manners, and doesn't display any anxiety at being left alone. She is slightly timid when first approached and at feed timing, preferring to eat alone. Savannah seems to be a dog who will fit into almost any home, whether there is another greyhound with her or not. Congratulations to the Ayers Family of Augusta GA! Pending Day 5.19.09 |

Tune Town is a sweet girl who LOVES people.
She is stunning with an unusually glossy, mahogany red and black
brindle coat. She can be vocal when crated away from people so would not be
a good apartment dog. She potties on leash so might do OK without a fenced
yard. She loved playing with the small dog in her
first foster home so should be good with dogs of all sizes. She loves
people best though and would probably do best with a family with
someone who is home a lot. She likes to go for rides and passed her
cat test. Congratulations to the Petak Family of SC! Pending Day 2.2.09 |

Brook is a medium size fawn girl with blue hair mixed in. She has the most gorgeous Cleopatra eyes with the liner extending almost two inches from her eyes. She's a very very sweet girl who tolerates just about anything! She is very good about getting groomed or being handled in any way. Brook is quickly getting the hang of stuffies, though it seems she believes the "goal" is to tear the nose off the stuffed screaming monkey! She's a playful girl who does very well with other greyhounds and really enjoys having playful companionship, particularly in the yard. She has been nothing but gentle with every creature in the house, though she has tested not cat safe. She walks very well on leash and tends to hug your side if something startles her. She is PERFECT in her crate and readily goes in for a small treat. She's a very smart girl and very food motivated, so she will be easy to train. Brook is a very sweet easygoing girl who lives to please and works very hard to figure out what her humans want. Congratulations to the Regan Family of NC! Pending Day 12.17.08 |

Helen is being treated for a 'tarsocrural luxation'-- torn ligaments and tendons below her hock. She has an excellent plan for treatment and is expected to make a very good recovery. Updated Description! 5.4.09~ Helen is a sweet, laid back, tolerant girl which has made her a favorite at the vets. She accepts even painful treatments with no problem and is always happy to see the vet and vet techs. She is tolerant with small dogs and cats. She was able to move into a foster home for a short time and had very good manners there from the start. She had to be moved back to the vets because of some problems getting her leg to heal and is still at the vets now. Helen is quiet in her crate and potties well on leash so she may be a good apartment dog. We are optimistic that we will be able to save her leg and are hoping she makes a full recovery but she may end up with a limp or not having full use of the leg. Either way she will be an awesome pet for a lucky family. Congratulations to the Burgess Family of SC! Adoption Day 6.27.09 |

Just Arrived! Zena is a tiny little impish girl and just as sweet as she can be! She's bouncy and cute, and sure to win hearts everywhere she goes. She crates quietly, potties well on leash, and shows her love of being with people by seeking them out for attention. Although she's been very curious about her new surroundings, she corrects easily and learns quickly. What a great girl! Updated Description! 5.4.09~ Zena is a small curious girl that wants to check out everything. Her foster home has worked hard to teach her good manners like not to put feet on counters to see what is up there and she has learned fast and seems to want to please. She is living with cats and small dogs in her foster home and gets along well with them. She is bright and learned to sit on command quickly. She sometimes cries in her crate when left alone so may not be the best apartment dog but her foster home is working on that. She has had no accidents in her foster home and potties nicely on leash. Zena loves to lean on you and will nose you with her nose to get petting. She is a sweet affectionate girl that will make a lucky family very happy. New Update! 5.19.09~ Zena has started giving kisses!!! And she now officially loves toys! She really enjoys playing with her nylabone and kong. If someone is looking for a dog who likes to show off this is the dog for them! She loves to learn new things and doesn't even need treats to learn, she's all about the praise. She has learned to sit still to get out of her crate, sit and wait for her foster family to walk out a door first, lay down, come when called and wait for food/treats. At one point her foster mom was teaching Zena to "dance" but decided to stop rather than encourage her to jump in the air. Zena is also a great leash walker. Even though she has a bouncy personality she walks calmly right by your side and wears out after half a mile so her exercise requirement is very minimal. Blondie loves to run and play outside and doesn't like to potty on leash so may do better with a fenced yard. She sometimes wants to chase cats but responds well if you tell her no so seems like she might be OK eventually with supervision. Her foster home is working with her with their cats. Ritzy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves everyone. She

her good house manners. She was able to break out of a wire crate so will
need a plastic Vari-kennel if a crate is used. She can be vocal so may not
be the best in an apartment. Ritzy loves kids but because of her enthusiasm
may need to be in a home with older kids because she could knock over very
small kids. She tested cat and small dog tolerant at the track. She is going
to be a great dog for an active family that wants a dog that will join them

Ruby was a very sick girl when she came into the TriCounty program and it wasn't certain whether she would survive. She is a tough little girl and has pulled thru and is doing much better now. As sick as she was she still tried to greet everyone. She had tick borne diseases and to have a badly infected tail docked and is still on antibiotics for multiple infections. She was missing a lot of fur which has nearly grown back now and she is becoming a real beauty. She was one of the thinnest dogs we had ever seen and has put on 4lbs but still has a lot more weight to gain. Thru her treatment Ruby has been a model patient and willingly let people do whatever was necessary to get her better. She has become a favorite and has many visitors that come by just to see how she is doing. This is another girl who likes to snuggle and tries to get in your lap every chance she gets. She is getting healthier every day thanks to the hard work of the vets and students at Tri County Tech. We are hopeful that she will be well and have no ongoing health problems by the time she is released from the Tri County Tech program in March. Everyone is also hoping that sweet Ruby finds the very special home she deserves. Update 3.6.09! Ruby is doing great. Her tail has been docked short and she still wags the stub non stop. The skin infections are cleared up and her hair is nearly grown back. She has a clean bill of health and should have no ongoing health problems. Now that she is well and feeling good she is even more happy and outgoing if that is possible. She is curious about everything and very food motivated so probably would learn to do any trick you wanted for food. She has finally gained some much needed weight and she looks healthy and beautiful. This is a great girl that loves children and seem to get along well with other greyhounds and should do well in just about any family. Update~ 3.22.09! Ruby never met a stranger! That includes squirrels, chipmunks, birds, small animals, cats, you name it....she wants to play with all of them! She is very smart, not Alpha, and learns corrections on the first try. She will follow her humans from room to room, very affectionate and eager to please. She is completely housetrained and is comfortable both in and out of the crate. This little girl just loves to be petted and kissed! Congratulations to the Thomas Family of Charlotte NC! Pending Day 4.18.09 |

Just Arrived!
Erin is settling into retirement quite nicely! She rests quietly near her
humans while they are working and is a super affectionate girl. She gets
really excited when taken outside & does those quick circles with play bows.
Erin had several litters of pups & seems to enjoy the more laid back older
dogs in her foster home, with the youngest will be 8 in February. She is
still figuring things out but seems very eager to get the hang of everything
from stairs to dinner routine & has had no accidents in the house. She seems
to know already that business is handled outside. This is a super
special girl- cute, silly & totally lovable!! Congratulations to the Small Family of Myrtle Beach SC! Adoption Day 4.18.09 |

This petite cutie is such a sweet happy go lucky girl! Dora is very playful
and loves her toys and is always up for a game. She loves kids and other
dogs. She can't seem to get enough attention from her people and is going to
be a
very devoted pet. She is probably going to be too interested in cats to live
with them but may be trainable with small dogs. Congratulations to the Roberts Family of NC! Adoption Day 4.6.09 |

Just Arrived! Lightfoot or Dugan as we have been calling him is a medium sized, sweet, affectionate boy who loves kids and just lights up and starts wagging his tail if he even hears a child's voice. He loves to play with stuffed toys and his favorite is a stuffed bunny. His favorite thing other than being with people is sleeping on a big cushy dog bed though. Dugan does great with cats and helps his foster mom feed the cats morning and night and also passed his small dog test with a Pomeranian with flying colors. Dugan is walks wonderfully on leash and is quiet and well behave in his crate. He has visited a nursing home and enjoyed himself so much that we think he shows potential to be a great therapy dog. This guy is going to make a great addition to just about any family. Congratulations to the Family of Easley SC! Adoption Day 4.3.09 |

Annie crates quietly and is very well
behaved. Annie has a high prey drive so needs a home with no cats and Congratulations to the Kilpatrick Family of Greenville SC! Adoption Day 3.29.09 |

Just Arrived! Nothing cranky about Carl in spite of his name! This is a tall, calm, but very outgoing guy. Carl is a love and will rub on you and do little hops for attention when he meets you. He is a very affectionate greyhound. So far he has done very well with the small dogs in his first foster home. Carl travels calmly and happily in a car. Updated description! 1.31.09~ Carl is a total love bug! He may have been quiet and calm initially, but now that he's settled in he is most definately a bouncy energetic 2 year old. He'll settle down (on a pillow) when told to, but would rather be playing with a chew toy. He's never met a stranger and isn't shy about pushing to the front of the line when loving is being given out. He lays his head on the other pups backs or on your lap or arm when he wants attention. He has the most bewitching golden eyes, so don't look into them unless you're ready to fall in love! Nothing intimidates this confident boy. He's great on slippery floors, and stairs. He did well meeting small dogs but is not cat safe. On walks, he doesn't tug on the leash but does tend to wander in any and every direction to make sure he doesn't miss a thing. Reminders to stay focused are helpful. He isn't food aggressive at all but sure does love his chow, hopping up and down when his bowl is carried to the crate and he chomps his teeth. It's not a fast chatter but a very slow chomp, and really adorable. He will go in his crate when told to kennel up but he is the last one in. He is a beautiful solid brindle, not a white toe or even on his chest. Very affectionate and energetic!

Fannie has really come out of her shell! She loves to chase me, toys, squirrels, birds and my dogs in the backyard and is starting to get the idea that if she brings toys back to you-you will throw them for her again and again. She wakes up in the morning happy to see everyone full of love and tail wags. She plays with her stuffies in the house all day then roaches on her dog bed in the den. She is just an all around great girl and the family who gets to see her full personality emerge will be very lucky indeed! (she also has the CUTEST ears in the world) |

Just Arrived!
Jeanie is a very sweet, smart and sensitive girl. She is still full of "puppiness."
She's playful and loves toys and flashing those big brown eyes at you. She
always wants to be in the room with you so potty time is quick and to the
point. Jeanie needs to stay busy so lots of chew toys are required. She's extremely cat safe, loves kids and doesn't meet a stranger. No quick
moves or loud voices, she's easily shaken. She's definitely a lover and
can't resist laying her chin on your lap or the side of your bed for
attention. She is a bit of an "attention hog." You can't love on one dog
without loving on her. She doesn't get on furniture or climb stairs and has
finally become a fan of her crate. She'll make a great pet for a family
looking for a young grey. Congratulations to the Hamilton Family of Martinez GA! Adoption Day 2.19.09 |

She climbs the stairs and walks the hardwoods with ease. She still seems pretty shy...even though she has full roam of the house her favorite place to be is her crate. She does wag her tail a good bit but its a very slow gentle wag so i don't think she'll have any problems with actual happy tail. She still needs a little work with leash walking as she pulls a good bit but other than that she seems completely ready for a forever home.

Just Arrived! Facie is a cute little brindle girl with just half a tail. At some point, part of her tail had to be amputated. Having an amputated tail is often a mark of distinction for greyhounds. Many of the very friendly waggy ones hit things with their fragile tails when wagging and have to have a portion or all of their tail amputated - greyhound folks call it "Happy Tail". Facie is an outgoing little gal and she even grins up at you when she is very happy. Only a few greyhounds do this and we love to see the grinners. girl otherwise and loves older children. She is great on leash and is fine

Just Arrived! Her name, Dim Sum, translates into "Heart's Desire"! She is a 2 year old black female that never trained or raced. As a pup they noticed she sat at a strange angle and did some X-rays. They found that at some point when she was very small she had probably been stepped on and she had a healed fracture of the head of the femur. They decided not to race her because of it and kept her at the farm. She is an Oshkosh Slammer pup and has the same mom as the 3 littermates below. They say she gets along very well with other dogs and loves to play with them and get them to chase her. She never growls at other dogs. She has a really nice playful happy personality. Blondie is a sweet happy girl whose tail goes 100 miles an hour. She was a very good racer and still loves to run and play and has a bit more energy than the average couch potato greyhound so would do well in a home that enjoyed walking or hiking with a dog. She is very devoted to people and has jumped fences to get to her former racing owners. She will need a 6 foot fence if she is outside off leash to keep her safe. She would do OK without a fenced yard if her family was committed to giving her on leash exercise. She prefers not to be alone and can be vocal about it so definitely would not do well in an apartment or townhouse. She would love to have another dog for company or someone that is home a lot. She seems to want to please and responds quickly to corrections so will probably be OK with cats with some supervision and reminders. She does very well with small dogs. A recent question: why are some of the dogs pending for a length of time? Because we choose to host all foster dogs in our homes, available space is always limited. A down-side is that we don't have room to hold dogs for families or postpone adoptions for weeks or months. Unfortunately every delay is one less dog that we can bring into the program and we hope adopting families understand. Regular visitors to this page may see, however, that some dogs stay Pending for more than the few days that are more typical for Greyhound Crossroads and wonder about the reason. We think that's a very good question! Usually this is because a foster family has fallen in love with their foster and wish to keep them. In order to help them make certain it's 'true love', we place them on required Pending for a month. You'll notice many long-pending dogs fit into this category. Occasionally we also make the decision to delay finalizing adoptions because it's in the best interest of a dog with medical concerns and treatment. If you're concerned about a dog on this page don't hesitate to email me and we'll be happy to explain. If you'd like to receive an application, the link is below! Thank you for visiting this page! I hope you enjoy watching all the happy dogs come through our program. Kim Owens, GC Director |

We strive to be do our best and are committed to support after adoption to our families and dogs.
