ANYONE can help Greyhound Adoption!

Wow, there are SO MANY ways to help greyhound adoption!

Whether you feel moved to help with financial donations, your time and energy, or perhaps just spreading the word, there are ALWAYS things that can be done.  Check out the areas below and see where you can help!

Got Extra Room?  Nothing is quite as rewarding in greyhound adoption as Fostering!
Email our Foster Coordinator Lisa Gilmer for more information!

Got Greyhound Goodies?  Run a greyhound or pet-related business?  Join our Sponsor Program!
Donate one or more items we can sell in our fundraising silent auctions.

Are you an ebay seller?  Run an item stating in the description that it's being sold to help us and link our website.

Donate one or more items to be sent home with the fosters.

Provide your customers with information about GC with lobby displays or other appropriate ways.

Sell us items that we might need on a regular basis, like dog supplies, at your cost.

Offer one unit of services (a grooming, a night's boarding) for us to use when we have a special need or auction off.

Join the Links program and donate a portion of every sale received as a referral from GC.

Sell an item exclusively for us that greyhound folks can't get anywhere else.

Provide samples and/or coupons to be distributed with each dog as it goes to it's new home.

Got Skills?  You'd be amazed at the great ideas we receive from people who suggest ways to help us!
Are you an artist or enjoy crafts?  Create one unique item that we could auction off, or create something that can be made available long-term for ordering.

Do you own a business?  Perhaps you could donate one item to our fundraising auctions.

Do you run a service-oriented company?  Donate one set of services, like a grooming session or one weekend stay at your boarding kennel.

Do you have connections with the press or publications like magazines, the news, or outdoor advertising?  Every time we appear in the press we reach a new audience!

Do you drive long routes for work in your own vehicle?  Perhaps you could help by transporting a dog when it's convenient!

We are currently seeking a volunteer who has videotaping/editing dubbing experience.  Do you know someone with that skill a few hours of time to donate?

Got Time??  There are many ways you can help GC just by volunteering you energy and enthusiasm!
Make arrangements for local businesses to display our fliers and keep them stocked regularly.

Read daily and weekly newspapers watching for ads pertaining to selling, rehoming, or lost greyhounds.

Help us make connections with the organizers of local fairs and festivals.

Help transport dogs from one foster placement to another or back and forth for routine vetwork.

Attend Meet & Greets to assist us in spreading the word to the public.

Search thrift stores and dollar outlets for small items that can be donated to the cause.

Save dog food 'proofs of purchase' and register receipts to help members on frequent buyer programs.

Carry business cards in your pocket every time you take your greyhound out in public. Someone WILL ask you!

Do you prefer financial donations?  We can put that to good use in so many places...

Difficult Dentals- all GC dogs receive a dental as part of their pre-adoption vetwork.  Greyhounds, however, often have REALLY bad teeth.  Many times we have to remove teeth or do major work to improve their dental health.  Pricetag for this addition surgery can reach an extra $400.

Unusual illnesses- while the majority of our greyhounds need only routine care, sometimes one comes in that needs a bit more to start over healthy.  This raises our cost for that dog over what the adoption fee doesn't cover.  Naturally we want the best we can afford for our dogs!  Financial donations help us cover the difference.

Greyhound Haulers- normally we are able to arrange transportation for our greyhounds using volunteers, their owners and trainers, or the Greyhound Underground Railroad (GUR).  Sometimes, however, we have a situation where a greyhound is in danger or other serious need and we can't wait long enough to arrange free transport.  When that happens we can sometimes use haulers- folks who are trained in the safe transport of greyhound all over the country.  Typically this service adds $20 to $40 to each dogs' total retirement bill.

Emergency Vet Treatments- admission to an emergency clinic will often cost $500 or a $1000

Big News!

Greyhound Crossroads is now a 501(c)(3) organization!  You can use this to your advantage in two ways:

  • For donations above $250 you'll need a statement for your income taxes with our name and information.  Just ask!

  • For donations below $250, you may document with your own receipts or a statement from us whichever is easier.  Again, just ask!

Please note that if you're in doubt, you should always consult your tax accountant or preparer.  We cannot give tax advice.  Adoptions fees are NOT deductible because you are receiving 'goods with value for your donation'.
