Charleston

Greyhounds available in the Charleston SC area.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!

The majority of greyhounds racing in the US were racing in Florida, until all of those tracks closed at the end of 2020.  We only have a very limited number of greyhounds available and don't expect to get many more.

If you have NOT adopted from us before: Please fill out the form below if you are in our adoption areas and you will be contacted to complete the approval process with a home visit IF we have a greyhound available that will work for your home.

Greyhound Crossroads Adoption Requests

If you adopted from Greyhound Crossroads previously: Please check our available hounds page and contact your adoption rep to make arrangements to meet the dog you are interested in.

SPECIAL NEEDS Placement. Phil is located in a foster home with Adoptable Greythounds of Florida in the Tampa Florida area. Because of his special needs, he was returned by his previous owners and has been in foster care for a long time. We offered to try to get the word out to some of our adopters in hopes we can help him find a home that can work with him. This would be an adoption through the group in Florida and not Greyhound Crossroads. Phil needs a dog experienced home, that is willing to work with him. He has severe separation anxiety. Having other dogs around helps Phil some, but it is not 100 percent. He has too high of a prey drive to live with small dogs or cats. Phil would do best in a home with a calm, large, female dog and a family that is home a lot. He does not do well being crated. Phil has shown some resource guarding behavior, with his toys, so he can't be placed in a home with children. As you can see, Phil has a lot of limitations, but we are sure there is a perfect home for him out there. Phil has positives too. He absolutely loves people, leaning on you, going for walks. Dogs like Phil love too much, which cause their separation anxiety. He gets along well with other Greys in social situations.

Phil raced in the US at the Sarasota Race Track and raced just 9 races. He didn't win any of them but managed to come in 3rd a couple of times. He raced his last race on April 30 2019 and was retired then and was in an adoptive home for years until he was returned. Phil is 7 years old, born 1/13/17. He raced at 73lbs. HIs sire is Swahili Eile and his dam is Kiowa Wildbraves.

Black Female

Fostered by (location):
Tampa FL Area
Adoption Status: In Process to the Freshwater family of Key West Fl

Lu is currently fostered in the Tampa area of FL. She is with another adoption group that asked our help in placing her. She is a 67lb black female that is 7 years old. She was born on 2/20/17. Lu raced in Australia at Dubbo, Bathurst, Wagga, Ballarat and Goulburn. She raced 26 races and only won 2 of those. She ran her last race on December 24 2020 so has been retired for some time.  Lu is a lovely girl. A bit reserved when she first meets you. It doesn't take long for her to warm up and want to be by your side. Quiet and polite, she is a joy to have in a home. Lu loves taking walks, happily trotting along. She is small dog friendly and would be fine with older children, small, loud kids and their toys might be too stressful for her. She would prefer a quiet home. When she met the cat she ignored it. She also showed no interest in guinea pigs.
