Ace is a beautiful brindle male that just retired from the race track where he was racing at 76lbs. He is pretty young at just 2.5 years old and was born on April 17th, 2009. He is living with a cat and the 7 and 3 year old children in his foster home so should be fine in a home with cats, kids or small dogs. Ace has really adjusted to home life quickly. He is a total love bug and will come up and lean on you to get petted - we call it a "greyhound hug". Ace is also a kisser. He loves to play with squeakie toys and gathers them all up and hoards them in his crate after he is done playing with them. His favorites are the stuffed animals. Ace enjoys running and playing in the backyard and loves playing with the other greyhounds in his foster home. His foster home says he is very intelligent and picks up on things quickly. This is a sweet, friendly, fun, boy that seems like the type that will easily fit into just about any home.

Ace lived in a wonderful home for over 7 years. His family had to help him cross the bridge due to nerve damage and pain that continued to get worse after a tumble down some stairs. Rest In Peace Ace.

Harmon is a red male that is a big traveler racing at 5 different tracks - Abiline KS, Bluffs Run and Dubuque in IA, then on to Palm Beach and Sanford Orlando tracks in Florida. He had 51 races to his credit and raced at 71lbs so is a medium sized male. His sire is Iceman Brutus and his dam is Rocking Jade. He was born on March 19th 2010 and retired at 3 years old. Harmon rode well on the trip and didn't seem to be phased at all by traveling. He hops into the van on his own and doesn't need a boost. He settled nicely in his crate the first night and didn't make a peep. He also potties well on leash so doesn't require a fenced yard and may be a good choice for apartment living. Harmon is very friendly and happy and is a real leaner going up to strangers and wrapping himself around them for love. He needs some work on walking on leash because he is excited to check everything out and can't decide where to go first so ends up doing a lot of zig zagging but settles down after a little ways and walks beside you. He is smart and learns quickly. Harmon did great at his first meet and greet at a hockey game. He loved all the people he met adults and kids. The noises and crowd didn't phase him. He had a great time! He met some small dogs outside that were barking and running and he didn't pay any attention to them at all so appears to be very small dog tolerant. He has been living in a foster home with cats and a ferret and is great with both. This is a very sweet loving guy!

Harmon was adopted and with a family for a couple of years until 2015, but was found running loose and taken to Animal Control. He was held there for quite awhile before we were notified and picked him up. His former family never looked for him or notified us that he was loose in that week. When we notified them that we had him, they declined to take him back because of personal issues. Harmon had developed some issues with his space and seemed like a completely different dog. He no longer liked going out to meet and greets and wasn't good with kids. He was very happy and comfortable in his foster home though, so his foster home decided that they would just keep him. The Crouch family had him until April 22, 2019, when Harmon took a tumble running in his backyard and injured his back badly. He was in a lot of pain and his family helped him cross the bridge. He was very loved and will be missed by his family.

Tory is a sweet, waggy girl with a very loving personality. She was born on Christmas eve of 2007. She passed her cat and small dog test at the track so should be able to live with either. She raced at 63lbs. She probably would not do well in an apartment because she does not like to potty on leash. Since she needs her privacy she would do best in a home with fenced yard. This is one SWEET SWEET girl that has been very well behaved in her foster home. Tory is very loving and will bond to her family quickly. If you look at her old photos you will see her amazing transformation. When she arrived she had fleas and had a lot of hair loss from them. Now that her hair has grown back in she is a sleek, shiny, beauty as you can see from her most recent photo.

Tory was adopted by the Griffin family 7/23/11. She lived a wonderful life with them until she passed away January 17th of 2019 at 11.5 years old. RIP Tory you will always be daddy's little girl.

Fancy is a cute little girl that raced at 61lbs. Her birthday is August 2nd and she is a daughter of the famous Dodgem By Design. Fancy is already home acclimated and has been living in her racing owner's home since she retired in October. Her racing owner already has a number of pet greyhounds so is not able to keep Fancy, even though she would like to. Fancy has great house manners and is very well behaved. She will give a quick bark if she needs to go out to potty and another at the door to let you know she is done and ready to come back in. She LOVES people and will stick close to you if she is awake. She will put her front legs and chest in your lap on a chair to snuggle with you. So far she has not gotten up on furniture though except for this, but we are pretty sure she would with a little encouragement. Fancy loves to play outside and will play with toys outside and entertain herself even if no humans or dogs want to play with her. She seems to really like playing with balls. She was living with quite a few other large dogs of different breeds and gets along great with males and other females. She has even done great with the small 13lb Italian Greyhound in her foster home. She also passed her cat test and even seemed to like the cat as she rubbed up against it - until it smacked her for it. Then she decided it was best not to be too friendly with cats. She is more focused on interacting with the humans than playing with the other dogs so might be OK as an only dog too. Fancy crates well and is quiet in her crate except for a little whining at meal times.

Fancy was adopted by the Smith family of Durham NC on 4/8/12. She was renamed Fern and had a wonderful home with them until she passed away 1/19/19 at 10.5 years old. She will be missed.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Doby Family (7/30/10)

Vanna came from John and Diane Galui's kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She was a kennel favorite of Diane's while racing because of her sweet, friendly, calm disposition. The fact that she is so beautiful probably played a part in that too. Vanna raced at 64lbs and her DOB is 5/19/07. Her sire is the famous Castor Troy and her dam is Rx Sensation. She had a long race career at Palm Beach first and then finished up at Sanford Orlando. Vanna wants to stay near people and will often lean up against you. She travels well and seems to like to go.  She was very spoiled at the race track and they said she expected special treatment and is a bit of a Diva. She seems to have a very low prey drive and had no interest in chasing small dogs or cats. This is a super sweet girl that even stands out in a kennel full of dogs. Vanna loves to play with toys and likes rope toys and stuffed animals best. She will throw them around and pounce on them.

Update after adoption: Vanna was adopted a couple of times but kept coming back to her foster home. They finally decided that she was going to stay - she had known she was supposed to all along. The Doby family adopted her on 7/30/2010 and she was with them the rest of her life. Vanna promoted greyhound adoption at Charlotte and Salisbury adoption events and lived a long life. She passed away on 3/18/2019 as an old lady after a seizure that she didn't recover from. She was a diva and a one of kind dog. She liked to kill snakes even though she gotten bitten several times by copperheads. She was the best meet and greet dog ever and her dad is really going to miss her.

Hot Dog came from the track adoption kennel in Jacksonville Florida and he raced at 67lbs. He is tall, narrow, and on the thin side so should max out at between 70 and 75lbs at a good pet weight. This is a friendly, happy, calm boy that has been very well behaved since he arrived in his foster home. He has had no accidents in the house and is very quiet in his kennel. He is a grinner and will happily grin up at you when happy or excited. He is a gorgeous black male with white socks and a white chest. Very flashy! Hot Dog was born Nov 17th 2005. He was a very successful racer that won a lot of races and raced a long time. He crates well and quietly so might be OK as an apartment or townhouse dog. His foster mom was sick recently and he laid right by her side the entire time watching over her. He is just so sweet! He is very good with children. This is a dog that was suggested to us as one that would be a good family dog because he has been around the children of his racing trainer often and was very good with them. Even though he is calm he does have a silly side and is likely to play bow to you trying to get you to play with him. The play only lasts for a little while because Hot Dog is a typical greyhound couch potato. Hot Dog needs a home without cats, he is just too interested in them. He was fine with small dogs when he was introduced to them one on one and allowed to sniff but at a distance he can mistake them for bunnies or squirrels so may do better living in a home with medium sized dogs. He loves to play with other dogs but only for a very short time. Typically our non cat friendly dogs take months longer to adopt than our cat friendly ones. If you do not have cats please consider adopting one of our sweet non cat safe dogs like Hot Dog.

Hot Dog was adopted by the Ahl family of Myrtle Beach in June of 2012. They called him Hottie and he lived a long happy life with them and passed away 3/22/19 at 13.5 years old. They say he was the sweetest boy of the 11 greyhounds they have had over the years. He will be missed.

Boomer is a brindle boy that raced at 72lbs. His sire is TNT Star Wars and his dam is Speedy Petal. He only raced 18 races at Southland in Arkansas and broke his hock October 3 of 2013, back when he was only 2. The break was splinted there by a vet and he was sent to us for rehab. Our vets also checked his leg and agreed that he would heal up fine in a splint and the break wouldn't require surgery. Boomer's break healed up nicely and he was adopted in December of 2013. He was returned to us for rehoming in 2017 because of financial problems, that made a move in with relatives necessary. Boomer was adopted quickly then and has been in a home for over a year. Boomer has just been returned again because his mom's health is failing. She is no longer able to care for him. This sweet boy has just had some bad luck over the years. Boomer likes to go on short walks and is great on leash. He can run around and do whatever he feels like doing, but probably wouldn't enjoy long hikes or jogs due to the old injury. He does favor the leg sometimes. Boomer turned 7 on August 11th. He is a sweet, very calm boy that is very good and already home acclimated. He is a little timid at first and a bit overwhelmed but warms up. He is very lazy and is happy to just have a soft dog bed to lay on. He isn't a dog that follows you or bothers you for attention. Boomer potties nicely on leash so may not need a fenced yard. He is a gorgeous, brindle boy with the prettiest eyes. Boomer has lived with cats and small dogs in his first home. When Boomer was first with us he loved his crate and was very quiet in it while he was on crate rest for the broken leg. He was so quiet in his crate we felt he may be a great apartment dog. He would probably not be able to do a lot of stairs due to his old injury and would at least need an apartment on the ground floor. He would be perfect for someone that didn't have much time or energy for walking and exercising dogs. His former owner says he loves kids and she is hoping that he gets a home with a child. The pictures are from when he first arrived and was younger.

Boomer passed away in February of 2019 after developing Bone cancer. He was only in his final home a few months after his return. He will be missed.

Rulz just arrived from the Bolton Kennel at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He raced 127 races. Rulz was a good racer starting out his career at the top track in the country, Southland. He won some races there and got up to the A level. He was moved to Orlando in March of 2017 and has been there racing since. He is a rare blue brindle which means he has gray stripes instead of black stripes like most brindles. Rulz will turn 4 on September 6th. His sire is Surf Lorian and his dam is Travel N Time. He is a very calm guy that gets along very well with all the other dogs in the kennel. He is very well behaved and very sweet. We have been waiting on him to retire since we met him. Rulz traveled well and quickly settled himself on a dog bed as soon as he reached his foster home. He is a calmly friendly guy that seeks out attention and love calmly. He gives sweet kisses too. Wood floors and steps don't seem to phase him. He settled into home life right away. Rulz passed his cat test and small dog tests without much interest. He liked the small children he met too.

Rulz was adopted by the Chapman family of Rock Hill SC in August of 2018 and was renamed Tupelo. He had a very short but happy life with them before contracting an illness that took his life in January of 2019. His vets were unable to identify what caused his seizures and severe illness. Tupelo will be missed by his family.

Cody just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He is an extra large male that is 88lbs. He is so tall that he wouldn't fit into the standard crate at the race track so they had to fix a special one for him to give him enough room. He is very tall and lanky with long legs and a long tail that touches the ground. He is a young guy that was only at the track for a few schooling races and just was so big and uncoordinated that they didn't think he was cut out to be a racer. So he never had one official race. He is a very young guy that won't turn 2 until November 18th. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is D's Pride. Cody is very quiet in his crate so may be good for someone living in an apartment. He is very calm for a pup but does enjoy running in the yard sometimes. He still has some puppy fuzz that will shed out later. He is a friendly guy that is good on leash in spite of his size. He kind of leans into you on walks and likes to stay close. He travels very well and just lays down in the back of his foster mom's van.  He seems like he wants to please and do the right thing. More as we get to know this sweet, gentle giant. Cody was brought in as a special request for a previous greyhound adopter that lives in Massachusetts. He is not available.

Cody had a wonderful home for a year and a half. He passed away due to traumatic injuries after falling down a flight of stairs in January of 2019. He will be missed by his family and everyone that met him. Such a sweet loving guy!

His sire is Iruska All Star and his dam is ICU Flight Plan. Thunder is a sweet, very friendly boy that loves people. He is very calm and well behaved. Thunder turned 4 on May 17th. Thunder seemed to be very interested in the cats when he arrived at the vet's office so even though he hasn't had an official cat test, it looks like he will need a home with no kitties. He is a friendly happy guy so far. He has done fine with the small dog he met and just sniffed him politely. Thunder has been doing great in his foster home and is a very nice guy.

Daisy came to us as a puppy. She was too shy to race and flunked out of training because she just was so scared that she couldn't really be handled by people. It took months of patience to be able to get this shy little girl to warm up and by that time her foster home decided to keep her. Daisy came from a farm near Tallahassee Florida and was going to race at the now closed Jefferson County Kennel Club Race Track if she had made it through training. Her farm was near that track and her owner had a couple of race kennels there. Some of her littermates weren't as shy and did race there. Daisy never actually finished her registration process and didn't get an official racing name since she flunked out of training. Daisy was born on March 15th 2004 and we got her just a little over a year later. Daisy warmed up to her adoptive family but was always afraid of children because she had never seen kids at her farm. Daisy's sire was Tame Game and her dam was Barts Cookie. We ended up placing 6 of her littermates. Only two of them were as shy as Daisy. She was one of the fuzziest greyhounds we have ever seen with a thick coat and very fuzzy tail. Daisy lived with the Owens family for 13 years and passed away at 4.5 years old in October of 2018. Be sure to look at her other pictures to see how much her coloring changed over the years.

Willy came in from the Palm Beach Race track. He never actually raced there. In schooling races he would try to chase the lure but could only run slowly around the track and couldn't keep up with the other greyhounds at all. So he retired without an official race. When we took him to our vet we found out there was a reason that he couldn't run. He has a very weak heart that is failing. Our vet guesses that Willy only has about a year to live. Our vet decided to adopt him and give him the best care and meds he can possibly have in what little time he has left. Willy is a sweet, brindle boy that is very loving. His sire is Kiowa Wish Frank and his dam is Rosalina. He is a very young guy that won't even turn 2 until October 29th.

Willy lived a great but short life with Dr Wiltsie. She was able to give him more time than she thought and he lived until September 13th 2018. Willy was also known as the Goat. He went to work with his mom at Healthpointe Veterinary Clinic and was spoiled rotten by the staff there. Goodbye sweet WillyGoat. You will be missed.

He is a smaller guy that raced at just 69lbs. Kareem's birthday is December 12th. Kareem's only negative is that he is very food motivated and has shown some possessiveness over his food occasionally. We are working on that with him. Because of that we think he would do better in a home with no children even though he has lived with children and has always been gentle with them. Kareem is such a gorgeous guy!

Kareem was called Mr Big after he was adopted and was with his family nearly 7 years. He passed away on October 1st of 2018. He is remembered as the sweetest, silliest, funniest, snuggliest, most loving boy his owners could ever have asked for. He will be missed terribly. Run free and fast, big guy.

Heart is a littermate to Rumble that is arriving with her. She was called Racin when she was racing but has been called Heart since at the farm so has two names. She was a better racer than her sister starting out at Derby Lane winning most of her top level A races then moved to Southland in Arkansas to race in AA races. She only raced 45 races and got bumped in a turn when she was at the top of her game and was injured in January of 2010. Heart raced at 67lbs and is a daughter to Wheelie Cool who we also placed. Her sire is Maryville Rumble. She was born Oct 13th of 2006. Heart went to Kansas to became a mom after she was retired and has 4 litters of puppies (26) that are already racing. Now she has retired from being a mom and is ready to start her new career as a pet. Her trainer says both girls were calm well behaved dogs that he loved having the kennel. More as we get to know her.

Heart's name was changed to Raisen after adoption. She was with them 4 years before she passed away in her sleep in October of 2018 after an illness.

Tom is a striking small, young, bright red, brindle boy that weighs 65lb and is mostly red without a lot of striping. He passed his cat and small dog tests and is OK to live with either. Tom was pretty shy when he first arrived but after living in an adoptive home for a year has become much more outgoing. Tom is an economy return that is available again through no fault of his own. His owner loved him and tried to keep him but just couldn't do it. Greyhounds rarely make good watchdogs but Tom may be the exception to that rule. He will bark a couple of barks to let you know people have arrived at the house. For this reason Tom would probably not be the best dog for an apartment or townhouse. Tom walks great on leash and is a happy boy that has good house manners. He does need to go outside every 4 or 5 hours and can't hold it for an entire work day like some greyhounds can. He will need someone that can come home at lunch to let him out or someone that works shorter days. We have him marked older kids only because loud running children have made him nervous in the past. He has been absolutely fine with kids at the meet and greets he has gone to and with visiting children but living with small kids would probably be stressful for him. We think Tom would do best in a home with other dogs to hang out with when people leave because he does seem to stress when he is left totally alone but does much better when he is with other dogs. Tom celebrated his 4th birthday on Christmas day. Just look at that cute puppy face! Already home acclimated too!

Tom passed away in 2018. He will be missed very much.

She is a return that has already been in a home for years so already has good house manners and is well behaved. She is a very sweet loving girl but can be a little timid at first and we think loud fast moving kids are likely to scare her so we listed her as older children only. She passed her small dog test so can live with them but still needs cat testing. She is calm and sweet and so adorable! Maddy's sire is the famous Flying Penske and her dam is TM's Very Few Do.

After she was adopted by the Mitchell family, they returned her to Project Racing Home in Randleman NC. That group let us know that they rehomed her with another family. They let us know that Maddie passed away in 2018.

Buddy's sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is Bee Bee so he is related to several dogs that we have placed already. Buddy seems to be a little too interested in chasing cats so will need a home without them. Buddy is very loving, happy, friendly guy and wants to be with people. When people leave he needs to have other dogs around. He doesn't do well being left entirely by himself and gets stressed. Buddy is a super sweet guy that is very loving.

Buddy crossed the rainbow bridge in 2018 and will be missed

Mai raced 27 races at Lincoln Park and Palm Beach. She wasn't very good but had a blood line that was good so she became a mom after she retired. She had 3 pups in January of 2009 and now has been retired from that life too. Mai was born on 3/24/05. She has settled into her new foster home very nicely. She walks very well on leash & potties on leash, crates well & loves to go on car rides. Mai can be an active girl & just loves playing with her toys, squeakies best of all!! She's gotten along very well with long dogs & 5 lb dogs in her foster homes. She can get a little protective of toys she's playing closely with tho so is learning manners on proper sharing. She's a small to average size girl at around 62 lbs & has a gorgeous petite face. We got to introduce her to stairs which she took in stride with a little practice. Mai would love to have 2 legged or 4 legged siblings to play with & a fenced yard or play dates to stretch her legs every so often. She is a social butterfly & enjoys going to meet & greets to show off her beauty & meet everyone that will stop to pet her. May also enjoys the quiet moments of snuggling on the floor & would fit into almost any home!!

Mai was loved by the Fischer family and was loved very much. She crossed the bridge in 2017 at 12 years old from Osteosarcoma - bone cancer

Mercy is a white female that has black ticking (freckles or dalmation spots). She just turned four April 23 and raced at 60lbs. Mercy is a fun, playful, energetic girl. She was fine with a medium sized dog that she was tested with at the track but was marginal with the cats in her cat test - not horrible but not great either so they think she may not be safe with them. We will do more testing after she is vetted to see how she is with smaller dogs and may redo her cat test to see if how well she responds to training with the cats.

Mercy was adopted by the Reich family 5/9/11 and was very much loved up until she passed away 3/21/18

Goofy is a tiny guy that is smaller than most female greyhounds. This cute guy actually grins. That is why we picked him out of all the available dogs at the race kennel. If anyone got near his kennel he would give you a big grin and try to kiss your hand through the bars while he was wagging his whole body. If someone talked to him he would spin around in his crate in happiness. He is such a cute little, happy, loving guy we just couldn't resist him. He potties well on leash so may be OK without a fenced yard. He has great house manners and likes children and has lived with them in his foster home. He gets along well with the greyhounds in his foster home males and females. He still needs to be tested with cats. Goofy is a fun, playful, silly guy that loves playing with toys and balls. His foster family has nicknamed him Hollywood because he is always smiling and looks ready for his closeup. He is going to be a fun little guy for some lucky family. Congratulations to his foster family the McKees!!! Goofy will be staying with them!

Goofy ended up being called Jack and was in his home with the McKee family until he passed away in February of 2018.

He was pretty good and eventually got up to the top A level. In his last race on Feb 4th he broke a bone in his leg. He had surgery in Florida and was sent to Pro Greyhound in NC, a greyhound rehab center. He is expected to make a full recovery. We will place him as soon as he is released by the vets for adoption. That usually takes 8 to 12 weeks. Quaker is a very friendly guy with a sweet calm personality. Very loving. His sire is the famous Flying Hydrogen and his dam is Bella Folklore. Trent may have a boyish name but she is actually a girl. She was named after her famous father Trent Lee and her dam Soft Melody. She was also a very good racer, racing at one of the top tracks in the country Wheeling Downs. Trent raced at the top levels there in AA and even competed in a Stakes Race for the best dogs racing at that track. She raced 102 races before being retired to be a mom. She has a total of 15 puppies in 3 litters listed burn 2009, 2010 and 2012 but may still have another more recent litter that will be registered to race soon. She has been living on the beautiful Blu Too Farm in Florida and has now been retired from her mom duties and is looking for a couch of her own. She will turn 11 on December 6th. Trent raced at 65lbs. She is a very young 10 and is in phenomenal shape for a 10 year old. She is extremely affectionate and is very laid back and loving. She has a pretty high prey drive so they don't believe she will be able to live with cats. Because Trent is an older girl, she qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $200.

Trent was adopted by the Martin Family in July of 2016. They had her for two happy years. They lost her to bone cancer in August of 2018.

Tabor is a 78lb brindle male that is full of personality. When he is excited and happy to see someone he does a huge grin - it is something that few greyhounds do. Be sure to look at his other pictures to see a picture of it. We all love the grinners! Although it looks a little scary to people that aren't familiar with greyhounds it is a submissive, happy, friendly gesture that a few special greyhounds do when they are very happy and it is a true smile. Tabor really has an exceptional personality and will be a fun dog for a lucky family. Tabor just celebrated his 4th birthday on July 15th. His sire is Brady Thomas and his dam is Solwest. He raced at Southland in Arkansas but most of his 132 races were at Derby Lane in FL. Tabor was a very good racer even competing in Stakes races. Tabor did not pass his cat test so needs a home without cats. He has done fine with the small dogs in his foster home though. He is a VERY friendly, loving, goofy guy that is very happy and friendly and loves people!! Such a cute brindle boy!!

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Smith Family of Blue Ridge GA 10/28/16

Marcy is a white female with black spots that is a very special girl. She has an esophogeal disorder that caused her to throw up when she ate, so she was very tiny and the runt of the litter. She barely survived. Eventually her owner figured out why she was so thin and smaller than her littermates. Marcy had to be fed separately out of a raised feeder and needed softened food that was easy to swallow to keep from choking on it. Her racing owner hoped she would eventually grow out of the problem as she got older, but she didn't. Marcy never raced because of her issue. Her racing owner didn't think that anyone would want to adopt a girl that had this disorder, so just planned to keep her on the farm as a pet for her whole life. We know there is a special family out there for Marcy, in spite of her disorder. We have placed other dogs with the same problem. Although Marcy is small for a female greyhound, she is healthy. As you can see from the photos she is able to maintain a good weight using the raised feeder and making sure her food is very soft. She does need to be walked on a harness instead of using a collar to avoid pressure on her esophagus but that is her main limitation. Marcy is a sweet, friendly girl that loves everyone she meets. She turned 7 on April 20th. Her sire is Ardkill Jamie and her dam is JT's Petey Girl. We placed her littermate Hanks Luckycharm and DDM's Dynamite years ago. Marcy is very well behaved in a house and very quiet in her crate so may be a good choice for an apartment. She passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Be sure to look at Marcy's other photos to see pictures of her as a puppy. She is the tiny one in the group. Marcy has been fostered with kids and cats and is great with both. She is a snuggler that likes to be as close as possible. She loves to cuddle in bed with her foster family- kids and adults. Although she would like to be up on the couch with her family, she doesn't like her feet going between the cushions on the couch. So she figured out that sleeping on the ottoman was a better place for her. Marcy has been in an adoptive home but was unable to hold her pee all day while they worked. They think she would do better in a home where people weren't gone all day. We are getting her checked for a urinary tract infection, since she didn't have this problem in her previous foster homes.

Marcy was adopted by a wonderful family and suddenly passed away in July of 2018 due to some internal bleeding that couldn't be fixed. Rest in Peace sweet girl!

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Price Family of Myrtle Beach SC 3/29/15

Toni is a pup that came straight from the farm and never went to the race track. She just turned one on October 8th so is still very young. She is small and weighed 54lbs at her vet check. She never raced because of an injury on the farm. Another dog attacked her and removed most of the skin between her tail and hipbones in September. The wound was too large to stitch so had to heal up on its own slowly. The injury is mainly cosmetic and doesn't affect her ability to run or play. She will just have a large scar. Toni couldn't go off to race training with a big open wound so her owners held onto her for a couple of months to get her to the point that she could be transported to us from Kansas in November of 2014. Toni never completed the registration process and never got a racing name. She has been called Toni since a pup though. Her sire is the very famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Toni Works. Toni passed her cat and small dog tests and has been living in a foster home with an Italian Greyhound. She is a very good jumper and has been known to clear fences so needs a home with a 6 foot fence. Toni is calm in the house but loves doing laps and playing outside every time she goes outside to potty so she really needs a fenced yard to play in. She is a natural sitter. She crates well and is mostly quiet except at meal times when she whines some. Toni is not a confident girl and tends to be timid and jumpy. There is construction going on at her foster home and the noise of that scares her. She will take awhile to warm up to a new situation but once she warms up she is a friendly, silly, happy girl. She is likely to be pretty nervous at first when she is adopted and goes to a new home. She loves people and approaches most people wagging indoors, but sometimes outside she still is a bit timid and runs around just out of reach for a few moments until she gets her courage up to approach.

UPDATE 1/15/15: Toni went to our vet to have her spay and we had our vet do some reconstructive surgery on Toni's back to make it look better while she had her under. The reconstructive surgery was not successful. The good skin would not attach to the scar tissue and eventually sloughed off leaving another big open wound. So that meant more healing time for Toni.

UPDATE 3/4/15: Toni is finally nearly healed up and just about ready for adoption! Through her treatment Toni has been happy and acts like nothing is wrong. She continues her daily runs in the yard and doesn't even flinch when we put medicine on her wound. We really love this sweet girl!

Toni healed up completely although she always had a big scar. She was adopted 3/29/15 and renamed Princess Jasmine. She had her own little girl to love. Her family says she was the most wonderful gentle girl. She passed away suddenly in 2018 after a brief illness that resulted in a seizure that she couldn't be revived from. Sweet girl that left us way too young. RIP Princess Jasmine.

He is an easy going guy that is very friendly and calm. Just walking up to people and wagging his tail politely and leaning in for love. We think he has potential as a great therapy dog. He is the grandson of a brood mom we adopted out named Greys Fiddle De and is very sweet like his mom. His father is the famous Stan's Boy Flyer. He goes potty on leash so would do fine in a home without a fenced yard like an apartment or townhouse. He is also very quiet which makes him a good candidate for apartment living. This is a sweet, easy guy because of his friendly, laid back personality. He is going to be a great dog for some lucky family. His foster family says he is very well behaved. He is cat friendly and does well with dogs of all sizes and is fostered with some tiny dogs. He is very gentle with children and seem to like them. If you like big dogs this is your guy! He is a gentle giant.

Rarefeat was adopted 2/19/12 and his name was changed to Rafe. Rafe blessed his family with his wonderful personality and love from 2012 until late December, 2017. Rafe loved swimming in the ocean, slept on many beds in many sunbeams, and just generally blessed everyone with his presence and affection. Rafe developed Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in one of his legs which ultimately led to him crossing the rainbow bridge. He will never be forgotten and will be sorely missed. Free Bee just arrived from the Blanchard Kennel at Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida. She is a pretty tall girl for just 60lbs. She raced 142 races and was pretty good, racing at Dubuque and Bluffs Run in IA and Southland in Arkansas and Naples Ft Myers in Florida before moving to Orange Park. She was mostly a B level racer but did compete in a top level stakes race. Although she turned 4 on April 9th, Free Bee still has a cute puppy look to her. She is VERY outgoing and gives hugs and just loves people. She loves playing with other dogs and especially loves balls that squeak and toys that squeak. She can be energetic for short spurts but calms down really well in the house and just wants to put her head in your lap and be close. Free Bee's sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and her dam is Boc's Mc Raisen. She has been in a foster home with a calm older yorkie and has been fine with him. She loves playing with all the other greyhounds at a playgroup. We were told that she is a pretty confident girl and can be a little bossy at times. She seems like she is going to be a fun girl for a family that wants a playful, silly, girl. She does potty well on leash and is leash walked at her foster home but she would probably do best with a fenced yard where she can chase balls and run and play since she enjoys that so much. Although she has been living with cats at her foster home they are having to keep her away from them because she is too interested in the to be comfortable with so she needs a home with no cats. Her foster home says she is the most loving dog they have had, even more loving than their personal greyhound. She is super sweet!

Bee was only in her adoptive home for less than a year and died suddenly in June of 2018. The vet thinks she may have had a blood clot that went to her brain or heart. RIP Bee!

She seems to respond well to correction so we think she is trainable and will be glad to evaluate her with your specific cats. She is good with small and large dogs so should be fine in a home with other dogs. Hit did have a broken hock October 9th of 2010 that ended her racing career. She has completely healed since then but may always have a slight limp. She stilll loves to run and play and doesn't let the old break slow her down a bit. This cutie can still turn on the greyhound speed when she wants to. This is a wonderful little girl that is very well behaved and is going to be a wonderful loving pet for some very lucky family.

Her Pedigree

Hit was adopted by the Sellner family of N. Augusta SC 5/20/2012 She lived a wonderful life with them until she passed away in June of 2018. She will be missed by her family.

Mister Nino raced at the Mobile Alabama Track briefly in September of 2006. He only has 6 races listed and only won one of those. He may have raced some at Birmingham as well because their races weren't always reported at that time. We got Mister Nino in December of 2007 from his race owners Kevin Fish and Heather Powers. Mister Nino was a very sweet guy that passed his cat test with just a little initial interest. He was born on 12/28/04 so turned 3 right after he arrived. His sire was the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Tycam Amstel. A previous adopter, Judy White, wanted to foster him with the idea of adopting him if he got along with her cat and other greyhound. He did great with them so she decided to keep him. Mister Nino lived a long happy life with her and passed away peacefully at 14.5 years old in May of 2018.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Kovacs Family of Easley 6/11/16

Val just arrived from the Birmingham Race Track. He is named Valentine because he was born on Valentines day of 2011. He is listed as white and brindle but looks more white and bluish brown to us. We can't see any stripes in the spots that are supposed to be brindle. He is mostly white though. He is an extra large guy that raced at 83lbs. His sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is CTW Hard Hannah. Val started racing at Tri State Race Track in West Virginia but was quickly moved to Birmingham. He was a good racer there, getting up to the top A level. He raced an amazing 265 which is right up there with the most races of the dogs we have placed. He gradually started slowing down and finally was retired on May 21st, 2016. Val was curious about the small dog he met, but seems like he will be fine fine with them. He still needs testing with cats and kids. He seems like a very friendly, confident guy. He does have some flea dermatitis so his coat is a little rough right now but that is being treated and it will grow back in very nicely. Val is very friendly and loving and will stand with his head in your lap wanting to be petted. He complained very loudly about being kenneled, so will not be a good apartment dog. He is very calm and laid back but he can be bit pushy and stubborn when it comes to doing what he wants to do - like helping you drive. He will need someone that will give him leadership and direction and continue teaching him the rules that he is learning in his foster home. He is very low energy and very loving.

Val was adopted in June of 2016 and was called Bodie by his family. Bodie passed away in May of 2018 after a 6 month battle with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). He will be missed by his family and everyone that met this sweet goofy guy.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Grover family of Columbia SC 5/24/14

Sky Rose is an 8 year old brindle female that has been in a home for years. She only raced a short time and was originally adopted in 2008. Her owner was forced to return her because she is in the hospital battling cancer. Sky Rose has been a great companion and is a wonderful girl and this is very hard for her owner. Sky Rose is a little timid at first but is warming up quickly to her foster family. Even though she is usually a bit shier with men, she is following her foster dad around already. Her sire is Yankee Patriot and her dam is Miss Van Gogh. She turned 8 on December 16th and raced at 60lbs. She weighed in at 62 at the vets. She was checked out by our vet and got everything updated. Sky Rose got a fresh dental, had a few bad teeth pulled and has been cleared for adoption. This is a sweet, girl that has already lived in a home so is home acclimated and has good house manners. She has lived with cats and the cat in her last home curled up and slept with her. She is also great with small dogs and kids. Because she is over 8 years old Sky Rose qualifies for a reduced adoption fee of $200. Be sure to click on her other photos to see some of her when she first retired and was much younger.

Sky Rose was adopted by the Grover family of Columbia on 5/24/14 and lived a wonderful life with them for 4 more years until May of 2018 when she passed away peacefully in her sleep at nearly 12 years old. Her family will miss her crowding them out of bed at night and following them into the bathroom; nuzzling up to their chest and holding her paw over arms. She was their first greyhound and will be missed.

She is very young and just turned 2 on May 4th. She raced at 62lbs. Her sire is the very famous Flying Penske and her dam is Kelsos Isabella. She is a littermate to Mamas Eddiemoney who is also available. We placed her sister Mamas LeslieGore and brother Mama's Lazarus too. All are great pets that settle in quickly and have great friendly, easy going personalities that make wonderful pets. Deal passed her cat and small dog tests. She is quiet in her crate and walks great on leash without pulling. She seems a little timid and overwhelmed at first but if she is like the rest of her litter she will be fine in a day or two.

Deal lived a short but happy life with the Arrowood Family of Morgonton NC. They renamed her Bella. She passed away in May of 2018 at just 6 years old after a brief illness with a stomach infection and blood loss. She was very loved and will be missed.

Maggie came in from the, now closed, Jefferson County Kennel Club in 2006. She has just 14 races listed there and at Dairyland (also closed). She only ever won one of those races and mostly finished toward the back of the pack. Maggie is a beautiful, black girl with white chest, feet and nose that is very flashy and looks like she is wearing a tuxedo. She is a small girl racing at 57lbs. Her sire is Wigwam Hoss and her dam is RJ's Typhoon. Maggie just turned 2 on July 7th so is pretty young. She is a well behaved sweet girl that will be a fantastic pet. Maggie was interested in the cat she met but was correctible so may be trainable with a confident cat.

Margret was adopted in Feb of 2007 by the Nocks Family. She lived a long healthy life with them until 2018. At nearly 14 years old she started going down hill and they lost her on April 31st of 2018. Her family is incredibly grateful to be able to share their lives with "the best dog ever!"

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Patel family 11/26/14

Patsy originally came to us from the Orange Park track in Jacksonville Fl. She actually raced in Sarasota Florida and in Dubuque IA though and never actually competed in Orange Park according to her race record. She is a 66lb red female that raced 40 races. Patsy turned 3 on July 25th. Her sire is from Ireland named Team Record and her dam is Pat C Fluctuate. Patsy is a happy, friendly girl with a great personality. She is used to being around kids because her trainers brought their kids to work with them and she loved the kids. In a greyhound racing kennel all the dogs wake up and get up when someone comes in or opens their crate so sleep startle is rarely ever seen and definitely isn't a problem. Since she arrived we have found that she doesn't like to be touched when she is sleeping. For this reason we prefer to place her in a home without kids or a home with older kids that are old enough to understand not to bother her while she is sleeping. Her foster home has been working on this behavior and Patsy is responding well to training. Patsy has lived with a small hyper dog but would do better with larger, calmer dogs that will not jump on her when she is sleeping for the same reason. She has lived with cats and is good with them. She gives kisses and loves to play with toys. A very happy, friendly girl and what a GORGEOUS girl! She is very sweet and well behaved and has great house manners.

Patsy was adopted 11/26/14 by the Patel Family and lived happily until April of 2018 when she passed away due to Lymphoma. She was not quite 7 years old. Her family says that adopting her was one of the greatest experiences of their lives and they will always be greyhound people. RIP Patsy.

Greenville, SC (Howell)
Adoption Status: Adopted to Moore Family of Greenville, 3.19.11

Ruby is a beautiful girl who's starting over looking for her new home because her family is having a baby. They think she may be too playful and is likely to knock a toddler down. Ruby loves older kids though and is playful and would be a fun dog for a family with kids big enough to play with a dog. She is a wonderful dog that has been a loving family companion. She is healthy and completely up to date on her vetting and will be moving to her new home with some of her essentials as a gift to help her transition. Ruby has displayed varying responses to the cats she has been around in the family home. She will chase them, but will stop when they turn and face her. She might do OK with a family with cats that are confident around dogs and a family who is willing and able to set rules. Ruby's family describes her as a wonderful, people-oriented dog that should settle in happily with almost anyone. Lets get this beautiful girl home for the new year!

Ruby was adopted in 2011 and spent several years living at the Phoenix-Greenville's Inn in SC with the Moore Family. She enjoyed greeting hotel guests, who loved her soft fur and friendliness. She later moved to Athens GA with her family and had a long happy life. She passed away peacefully on March 21st, 2018 due to complications from a neurological disorder. Ruby was a sweet, wonderful girl who brought joy to all who knew and loved her.

She has liked the children she has met so far. This tiny beauty has looks and personality and you can't help but smile around her.  Update from her new foster home! Star is an amazing little angel! She came right into her new surroundings without hesitation, meeting everyone calmly and carefully checking everything around her. Adoption Status: Adopted by the Castlen family 8.24.13

Monty's owner asked us for assistance in finding a new home. They transferred from the UK about three years ago, and unfortunately the owner is being transferred again and can't take Monty this time. Monty raced only 36 races in the UK at Yarmouth, Romford and Hove and Brighton then was retired at age 2 due to a minor injury. His sire is Droopys Vieri and his dam is Oh So Wonderful. Monty has lived with two different small dogs in the past, he passed his cat test with no interest but has show some correctable interest in a couple of cats since so we listed him as trainable with cats. His owner tells us he is very low maintenance, very house trained, and always prefers to be inside with his humans whenever possible. We were told he could be a little shy at first with strangers but at our recent meet and greet he was trying to squeeze in to get love when people were petting other dogs. He seemed very friendly and social. He isn't a real needy guy though and is pretty comfortable just laying around. He isn't fond of thunderstorms or fireworks and lays under a table at his foster home when either is going on. He doesn't like being hugged or having his ears messed with so we have him listed as no small kids since it is hard to explain to small kids why that shouldn't be done. Monty made friends with everyone at the vet clinic during his dental and seems to be a very nice, well behaved boy. He seems like a very bright guy that quickly figured out how to work folding babygate - he just pushed it to the side and walked right though. He's ready to bless the next family with his unique story and sweet companionship! A couple of our members have made generous donations to cover Monty's adoption fee!

Monty has a wonderful home and passed away just before Christmas in December of 2016. RIP Monty!

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Keener Family of Candler, NC 2014

Rachel is a grinner and sometimes gets very carried away and chomps her teeth while she is grinning. Don't be fooled - she wouldn't dream of using her teeth for anything but smiling. Smiling is a submissive gesture in greyhounds and the smilers usually make wonderful pets that want to please. Rachel gets along great with other dogs. There is a very irritating mini-doxie in her foster home but Rachel has never once been bothered by him. She loves to go for walks and has even done long hikes with her foster mom. Rachel has some separation anxiety, but that is beginning to fall away and in time may not be an issue. She once followed her foster mom from room to room but now is even OK sleeping in a separate bedroom. She is most comfortable if she is in a crate when she is alone and that keeps her calm and out of trouble. She loves to go for rides and has not shown any sign of separation anxiety in a car and will just lay on the seat and wait for you if you get back. Rachel is a super sweet, outgoing girl that wants to be with you and wants to please. She is smart and learns quickly and has picked up on house manners fast. What a beautiful girl! She is going to make a wonderful pet for a very lucky family.

Rachel was adopted in 2009 by the Adams Family of Candler NC. When they had to move to Qatar in 2014, Rachel couldn't go. The Keener family took her in and lost her to acute renal failure on Feb 2nd of 2018 at 11.5 years old. RIP Rachel.
