Greyhounds available in the Raleigh NC Area.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR ADOPTERS!

As of January 2026, Greyhound Crossroads has once again gathered more adoption requests than we will be able to fill in the near future.  Therefore, the request list is currently CLOSED to NEW ADOPTERS.   We remain focused on dogs being returned to Greyhound Crossroads, and those displaced by not having their original groups to go back to.  Those options are extremely limited.

Those already on the list will continue to hear from our volunteers as dogs become available.  You will be contacted if we have a greyhound that will be a good match. That may take awhile. We suggest making an adoption donation of $650 WHEN you get your greyhound to help us cover its' medical and transport expenses. We never charge a fee to apply.

If you are already a Greyhound Crossroads adopter and wish to speak with us about adoption possibilities, you can email us at GreyhoundCrossroads.

Toast just arrived from Tri State Race Track in WV, where he raced 83 races. He was a good racer getting up to the top AA level, winning 11 races and placing in a lot more. Toast is a mid sized male, racing at 73lbs. His DOB is 8/31/22, so he won't turn 4 until the end of July. Toast's sire is the famous Highly Classified and his dam is ABS Almighty. Toast is a special guy, a star that expects and craves adoration and attention. Toast has been fine living with confident cats in his foster home, but did try to chase a timid cat that would run every time he came close. He would need a home with confident cats that will stand their ground. Toast has been great with small dogs he meets on walks and visiting in homes, but he has had mixed results living with other dogs. He is an extremely confident guy, a natural leader that will be the boss of the other dogs in his home, if allowed. He can be pushy about getting what he wants and he wants ALL the attention and love from the humans. He is an exceptionally cuddly, loving, guy that just wants to love his people and be close. Because he loves so strongly, he can stress when left completely alone at first. He did improve as an only dog in one of his foster homes. Toast liked the little kids he met, but he does like to give hugs, so could easily knock over a small child. We think he needs a home with older kids only. Toast reacts with curiosity to everything and is fearful of nothing so far. Toast is a lot of happy dog that is going to be the life of the party. His favorite thing, other than being with his people, is playing with toys. Because Toast is such a confident, smart guy, he will need a confident, dog-experienced owner that is willing to work with him with his separation anxiety. He will need rules and boundaries to keep him in line, since he is likely to try to run the house. Having another dog around seems to help with Toast's separation anxiety, but we will have to carefully match him with just the right dog. He will need a very easy going, buddy dog, that wants a leader to follow. Toast may also do OK as an only dog but definitely can't live in an apartment or townhome because he does fuss when left.
