Kitty is a gorgeous sable fawn with dark guard hairs in her coat over light fawn fur. Very unusual and striking. She has a lot of natural eyeliner. She retired in February from the Wheeling WV race track and we picked her up from the farm she went to when she retired. Kitty's sire is the famous Dodgem By Design and her dam is Huska Damsel. She will celebrate her 3rd birthday on June 22nd. Kitty was pretty shy when she first arrived but she has become a very outgoing friendly dog very quickly in her foster home. Now she greets strangers that come over happily and chooses to interact with them and follow them around. She walks perfectly on leash and travels well. She just gets into a vehicle and lays down for the entire trip. She crates quietly and potties very nicely on leash so may be a good choice for an apartment or townhouse without a fenced yard. She passed her cat test with no interest other than a casual sniff so should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. She seems like a very calm, laid back girl that should make an easy addition. She even was fine being outside when a chainsaw was being used and didn't seem phased by the loud noise. Kitty has developed a very silly fun personality. She loves to play with toys and can keep herself entertained by squeaking a toy and playing with it all by herself but would rather have a person join in the game with her. So far she really hasn't wanted to join in games with the other dogs in her foster home though.
Kitty has been diagnosed with SLO which is an auto immune disease that causes her toe nails to fall off. We have started the treatment of Fish oils and Niacinamide (b-vitamin). Her nails are growing back. She is likely to require continued vitamin supplements to keep her SLO from flaring up again. This is something that we see in greyhounds sometimes. She has returned to being able to run in the yard pretty normally now but when she has a flare up and loses her nails she will be tender footed and won't be able to go for long walks and won't be able to play until they heal up again. Fortunately the supplements to keep this in check aren't expensive and seem to be effective.
Kitty was adopted 2013 and lived 7 years with her family before passing away in June of 2020. She will be missed.
