Additional Details:
Leo just arrived from another group that asked us to help them place some dogs. Their vet passed away and they have been unable to get dogs vetted, so these dogs have been waiting for a very long time. Leo raced at Tri State Race Track in West Virginia. He raced 90 races there and won 6 of those. His last race was August 8th of 2023. He pulled up and did not finish that race due to a broken leg. Leo had his leg fixed and rehabbed at the track adoption kennel. The repair looks fantastic and isn't noticeable. Once in awhile he favors that leg just a bit, but runs and plays and will still be faster than any non-greyhound. His leg is completely healed after a year. Leo is a special guy that is going to need a dog experienced owner. He is very loving and likes every person he has met so far. He loves having company at his foster home. More people to love. He lives for love and attention. He is very dramatic about new things and things he doesn't like and tends to overreact. He is really worried about slick floors and just freezes, for example. He was also worried about even walking on a rug at first, but is getting more comfortable with those after a few days. His foster home is working on him with both but he is going to need carpet or at least carpet runners because he still freaks out on the shiny floors after having to walk on them for weeks. He will hop right up on a couch though. We were told he can be growly over his food with other dogs, so he has always been fed separately in his kennel. Leo has never growled at people over his food. Even though he doesn't want to share food with other dogs, he actually really seems to need another dog around him and refused to eat when kenneled alone at first. We think he would probably do best in a home with another dog or two, but probably not a large pack of dogs. His racing kennel felt that he needed to go to a home with his littermate Joaquin. Because of Leo breaking his leg, he had to be separated from Joaquin for 6 months, and did OK though. We tried putting them in separate foster homes and they did fine. Leo passed his cat test. He paid no attention to the cat and was much more worried about the slick bathroom floor he was standing on. Leo's sire is the famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Braska Diane. His DOB is 8/7/19 so he just turned 5 years old. He raced at 69lbs.
