Adoption Status: Adopted by the McPike family of Inman SC 2/23/17

Topper came to us in pretty bad shape. He is a tall, white boy with a couple of black spots on his face. The rest of him is white. He was registered to race but never actually had an official race so must have been adopted initially when he was around 2 years old. So it is likely he has been in a adoptive home for at least 6.5 years. We were able to identify him by his ear tattoos to get his racing name and he did have a tag on that said his call name was Topper. Since he doesn't have an official racing weight we don't know exactly what he should weigh but he is horribly thin now. Our vet thinks he should weight around 80lbs. Topper is tall for a male with a big head and extra long nose with a cute overbite. From what we can gather he was relinquished by his owners because they couldn't take care of him anymore. The person they gave him to, tied him out in their yard for at least a week according to their neighbors. That family turned him over to us when we asked for him. When Topper arrived he was very underweight, had lots of fleas, itchy skin and toenails that hadn't been trimmed in a very long time. Our vet checked him over and feels he is healthy in spite of being 20lbs underweight. He is heartworm negative. Topper was neutered already, and we gave him a fresh dental. Topper did not pay any attention to the cats at the vet clinic and seemed OK with a small white dog in his first foster home too. He goes right up to kids when he sees them too and seems to like them. He rides well in the car and crates well. He has only made a little noise in his kennel. He did great at the vet's office and calmly did everything asked of him and didn't seem to mind being handled. He seems like a very calm, sweet boy. He is putting on weight quickly and is gaining strength back after just a couple of weeks in his foster home. Topper turned 8 on July 24th, so that qualifies him for our reduced senior adoption fee of $200. His sire is the very famous Flying Penske and his dam is Arville.

Update: Topper was adopted by the McPike family in 2017 when he was 8.5 years old. He had a wonderful life with them until until March of 2021 when he was nearly 13 years old. His family helped him cross the bridge due to weakness in his backend and possible cancer in a front leg that caused him a lot of pain. RIP Topper.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Gutter family of Felton PA 11/22/17

Beast is a tall, handsome, 79lb, brindle male with a white chest and feet that was originally adopted directly from a Derby Lane racing kennel in Florida. Because of a change in their living arrangements, his adoptive owners have asked us for assistance finding him a new home. Beast also raced at the Southland Track in Arkansas briefly. He raced 103 races and got up to the top A level. His last race was October 5th of 2015 and he has been in an adoptive home since then. Beast turned 5 on August 23rd. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Havana. He is a friendly, confident guy that loves to go for rides in the car. He was living with small dogs in his previous home and in his current foster home and gets along great with them. He showed no interest in the cats at the vet's office. Beast crates wonderfully and quietly. His owner says he hasn't really been around children but he can be a little grumpy about being bothered when sleeping so we think he would do better with older kids that would understand not to bother him then. We got Beast neutered and gave him a fresh dental and heart worm test and got his vaccinations up to date so he is freshly vetted and ready to go home. He is a very sweet guy that hasn't seemed stressed at all by being rehomed. He is happy and has taken everything in stride. Seems like a very well behaved boy.

Beast was adopted by the family that owns his mother Flying Havana. They were reunited briefly right after she was diagnosed with bone cancer. Beast also ended up getting bone cancer and passed away in February of 2021.

Rocky is a white male with fawn spots that raced at 72lbs. He is a tall boy for his weight. He is a big traveler, racing at Southland in Arkansas, Dubuque, Naples Ft Myers, Ebro and finally Birmingham Al. He was never really a great racer but raced well enough to have a long career and did win some races and placed often. Rocky has 177 races to his credit. His sire is the very famous Lonesome Cry and his Dam is Kelsos Peach. He turned 5 on Nov 13th. We placed one of his littermates PG Up My Dough a year or two ago! Rocky did not pass his cat test so needs a home with no kitties but he did do fine with small dogs he met. He came in with a few rub marks on his face from his muzzle but they are better and we need to get new pictures. His foster home says Rocky is a calm, well behaved boy and acts like he has always lived in a home. No issues settling in with their other greyhounds and he picked up house manners right away. He is a great boy! Very friendly and sweet too. He seems like he will be an easy first greyhound. He has been quiet in his foster home so may be OK for townhouse or apartment living.

Rocky was adopted by the Backus family in 2015. He passed away in early 2021 at 11 years old. His family gave him a wonderful home, but they said he gave them even more back.

Lucy is a gorgeous dark brindle girl with black stripes over dark brown, nearly chocolate, color. She has a beautiful shiny coat and is a bigger girl racing at 68lbs. Lucy raced 146 races and was good getting up to A level on long distance races. She raced at Flagler, Naples Ft. Myers, Mardi Gras and most recently Sanford Orlando tracks. Lucy's sire is Atascocita Leroy and her dam is Fuzzys Roffolo. She turns 5 on December 1st.  Lucy passed her cat and small dog tests with no interest and has been fostered in a home with both. So far she has been complaining a bit in her kennel so may not be the best dog for apartment living. Lucy is a very gentle, loving girl. She seems to love kids and is being fostered in a home with children.

Lucy was adopted in August of 2015 and renamed Jessie. She passed away in early 2021 of Bone cancer. She will be missed by her family.

Sharky just arrived from Orlando Florida. He is an extra large, gorgeous black male that raced at 86lbs. He was born on Nov 4th and his sire is Rhythmless and his dam is JJ's I See Spots. Sharky retired after 97 races at Sanford Orlando, Palm Beach and at Derby Lane race tracks. He had a minor shoulder muscle injury that forced him to retire but that shouldn't effect his life as a pet at all or cause any permanent limp. Sharky did pass his cat and small dog test at the track and is living in a foster home with cats so would be fine in a home with cats or little dogs. Sharky has a wonderful personality. He is calm and pretty good on leash. He is very well behaved and has settled into his foster home wonderfully. He is super sweet and loving and loves people. This stunning, tall guy is ready for a home!

Sharky was adopted in 2014 and lived with his family until 2020 when he passed away due to bone cancer.

He does well with children and seems to welcome their attention. His sudden movements might be a bit much for small children. He responds well to correction and is learning that the kitchen counters are off-limits. He has a people-oriented personality, and loves to be with his family members. His boundless energy and charm keeps everyone entertained and laughing. He is currently learning the do's and don't's of inside living and although very curious, he is adapting well. He walks well on a leash but requires a firm hand. What a great boy full of personality!

Kiwi is a brindle female that raced at 64lbs. She turned 3 on May 29th. Kiwi raced at Palm Beach race track briefly, then was moved to Jefferson County Kennel Club to race. She raced a total of 71 races before retiring in April of 2011. She was pretty good at first getting up to the top A level quickly. In her last race she just decided she didn't want to chase the lure and never started the race with the other dogs. Kiwi passed her cat and small dog tests at the track so should be able to live with either. Her sire is Flying Penske and her dam is Kiowa Berma Top. Kiwi's foster family has decided to keep her.

Kiwi was adopted 7/1/2011 by the Sellner family. She lived a long happy life with them until she passed away at 12.5 years old in January of 2021. Kiwi was their second foster failure, she ruled the pack, taught many a foster the rules of the house and picked up after them- no other dog seemed to understand that toys had to be put back in the toy box so poor Kiwi had to run around picking up toys and putting them away. One time Jake caught a squirrel after a battle through the house. When their son went to dispose of the remains, he couldn’t find the tail. After thinking a bit he went to the toy box and found the missing tail. Kiwi was her own girl and will be greatly missed! Run fast and free at the Rainbow Bridge with Jake, Patsy and Jingles.

Evie just arrived. She raced at 59lbs and turned 2 on Oct 29th. She is a daughter of the famous Dodgem By Design. Evie was retired due to a minor injury to her front wrist. This is nothing that even causes a limp at a walk but did effect her speed as a racer. Our vet said she will be fine to run around and play as a pet and it won't limit her in any way and is not going to be noticeable. Evie is friendly and well behaved and traveled well on her way up from the track in Florida. She is living in a foster home with several very tiny dogs and has been great with them so could go to a home with small dogs. Evie settled right into foster care and was so relaxed that she was on her back sleeping with all her legs in the air - we call that a roach and it is a sign of a happy relaxed dog. Her foster home says that she is one of those dogs that makes you feel good because she always wags happily if you even make eye contact with her. Evie is a very happy girl that loves everyone. She passed her cat test with only a little interest when the cats ran or jumped. The rest of the time she was perfectly fine with them. She seems very trainable and mainly just will need supervision with cats at first.

Evie was adopted in January of 2012 and had a wonderful life with her family until she crossed the bridge suddenly at the end of 2020. She passed away from a reaction to painkillers given to her because of an osteosarcoma (bone cancer) diagnosis. She was very loved by her family and will be missed.

Her sire is from England - Balligari and her dam is Elysium. She will turn 4 on December 1st. She has 99 races listed and started out at Southland in Arkansas and from there went to Palm Beach in Florida. She just retired from Sanford Orlando race track. She was never a great racer but was able to place at the lower levels and even win a few races. Sangria is a sweet, happy girl that loves to snuggle with people and with other dogs. She is a twin in looks and personality to her brother that has already been placed. One of the sweetest and best behaved dogs we know. Like her brother, she isn't real food motivated and will skip a meal sometimes.

Sangria was adopted in 2013 and her family adopted her littermate sister a bit later. She had a happy life with her sister and family until she crossed the bridge just after her 11th birthday in December of 2020 of kidney failure. She will be missed by everyone that met her. Adin is a small brindle female that raced at 57lbs. She passed her cat test at the track and has paid no attention to the cats or small dogs she has met since she arrived. The small dog in her foster home loves her and goes into her crate to lay beside her. She turns 4 on June 18th. Her sire is the famous Flying Stanley which makes her a half sister to quite a few sweet dogs that we have placed. Her dam is Naysa. Adin is happy, sweet and very outgoing and seems like she will be an energetic, fun greyhound. "Energetic" for a greyhound still is just short bursts of playfulness - just enough to be fun and cute. Greyhounds are really low energy couch potatoes. Adin is smart and level headed and has picked up potty training right away. She pulls some on leash in her happiness to see things and visit with everyone, so we will be working on that. So far she has adjusted to her foster home quickly and has been the BEST foster! She gets along great with the other dogs, had no accidents inside, and plays with stuffed animals. Nothing seems to bother her and she does great at meet and greets and greets everyone happily.

Adin was adopted in 2012 and lived a long happy life until she crossed the bridge at 12.5 in December of 2020. RIP Adin.

Snakefoot came in from Mick Hymes farm in Arkansas. He was a very good racer that retired from racing to be a stud dog. He has 20 puppies registered so far and may have other younger ones out there that aren't yet registered. Snakefoot is a handsome brindle guy that raced at 76lbs. He will turn 8 on July 11th. His sire is Flare Gun and his dam is Oaks Mean Madina. Snakefoot moved right into foster care and made himself at home. Once he sees something the first time (stairs, new crate) he figured it out and had it down. Snakefoot potties nicely on leash so may do well without a fence yard. He was quiet all night the first night in his crate so may make a good apartment dog. Snakefoot is a wonderful guy that will be an easy addition to just about any home. Look at that sweet sweet face!

Snakefoot was adopted as an older gentleman at nearly 8 years old. He was very loved for the short amount of time he had left. He passed away less than a year later in December of 2020 due to kidney failure. He was his owners first greyhound and was very loved. "My life was blessed beyond measure because Snake was a part of it. He gave the best hugs and loved his family so much! He will be greatly missed. RIP Oaks Snakefoot. "

Carter is a young white male with black spots. He never actually raced. He and the rest of his litter ended up being retired straight out of race training at the same time and we ended up taking all 4 of them. Carter is a very shy and seems like he hasn't been handled a lot. He will come up to people cautiously but needs work on walking on leash and building his confidence in new situations. He freezes on leash when scared. His sire is Dave the Dog and his Dam is Topaz Lass. Dave seems to throw some genetically shy dogs and we have placed quite a few of his pups. All of the dogs we have placed have become wonderful pets though that are very loving with their families. They just need some time to get comfortable. Carter is a small guy around 65lbs. He turned 2 on May 26th. He did pass his cat and small dog tests. He will cautiously come up to his foster mom for love sometimes and bounce and play bow to get her to play then at other times he is nervous and timid around her and won't take treats. He is probably the most timid guy in the litter. He really is uncomfortable on leash right now and new things like the ceiling fan scare him. He will warm up with exposure and some patience. Be sure to look at his other pictures to see some of him as a tiny baby.

Carter is on medical hold for heartworm treatment that will last about 2 months. He is expected to be cleared for adoption around Sept 10th.

His Pedigree

Carter was adopted by the vet that fostered him during his heartworm treatment. He passed away suddenly from cancer in December of 2020 at the age of nine and a half. He will be missed.

Kiska was a good racer that raced 172 races at Derby Lane in St Pete Florida. She retired from racing in February of 2010 and began her second career as a mom. She had 2 litters since and raised 11 pups. Kiska has now been retired from that career and is ready to be a pet. She just turned 8 years old on June 16th. Her sire is the famous Gable Dodge and her dam is Flying AC DC. She passed her cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. Kiska has done great in her foster home. She is very confident and doesn't let anything bother her. She gets along great with all the other dogs in her foster home large and small. Kiska walks great on leash and loves to go for walks. She loves to play with squeaky toys even more. She is a very sweet girl that will come up and lean against you for affection. It doesn't show so much in her photos but she is a beautiful light fawn with dark sable tips. She is good with children that treat dogs respectfully but she did take offense to a child that crawled on her and laid on her. So she needs to be placed with children old enough to be taught that you should never lay on or crawl on dogs because it hurts them. Because Kiska is over 8 years old she qualifies for a discounted adoption fee of $200.

Kiska was adopted at the end of 2014 at 8 years old. She became a regular at the Carolina Renaissance faire where she worked with her mom who was an artist there. She also traveled to the Arizona Renaissance Festival with her mom. She was a faire favorite and everyone that met her loved her. She passed away just 2 years later at the age of 10 of bone cancer. She will always shine in my memory as my favorite renfaire dog, beloved friend, and sweet companion to my little Italian Greyhounds. You are loved and missed sweetheart!!!

Etta just arrived from Daytona Beach. She turned 5 on March 19th. Etta actually retired in October of 2013 and has been living with her trainer since then in her home. She was supposed to be a mom, but there are no litters listed on the racing database, so we aren't sure if that ever happened. Etta raced 118 races in Abilene, Bluffs Run, Jefferson County, and Daytona Beach Tracks. She raced at 61lbs so is a mid-sized girl. Her sire is Iceman Brutus* and her dam is Rocking Jade. We placed one of her littermates years ago too. She is supposed to be calm and friendly and will talk to you. Since her trainer chose her out of all the greyhounds in the kennel to keep as a pet she must have a very special personality. Etta has a beautiful shiny coat. She is being fostered with small dogs and does well with them. She was initially a little interested in cats during her cat test but lost interest in them once one slapped her. We think she should be able to live with cats with a little training and supervision at first. Etta likes kids and has lived with one in her trainers home.

Etta was adopted in 2015 and passed away in December of 2020 due to cancer. She brought us so much joy with her food obsession, talks and verbal bossing. She has left a huge empty spot in our family and in our hearts.

Eureka is a beautiful dark brindle female that raced at 62lbs. She just turned 3 on April 4th. She is a happy, sweet, friendly girl that has made herself very comfortable in her foster home in just a short time. She seems like she will be laid back and well behaved. She is a daughter of the famous Dodgem By Design and is a littermate to another of our available dogs Stimulus. She is smart girl and managed to open the latch to her dog run at the vets office and got out to hang out with her brother Stimulus (who also escaped) and the clinic cat. The three of them were out together all night and the cat was unharmed so she definitely passed that cat test. She has paid no attention to the tiny dog in her foster home either but she did manage to get out of her crate one time so may be a bit of a houdini. This is such a cute sweet girl with the biggest, most expressive eyes.

Eureka was adopted in 2012 and called Yuri. She lived until she passed away from osteosarcoma in 2020 at 10.5 years old. Yuri will be remembered with every crinkle of a cheese wrapper, to-go order of sushi, walk outside, errand in the car and evening lullaby. Seeing the bed perfectly made up without your usual nesting of the comforter just doesn't seem right. You are always in our hearts. We love you, Yuri Dog.

Kimmie is a brood that just arrived from a greyhound breeding faciliity in the Jacksonville Fl area. She is a daughter of the famous Dodgem By Design and is 7 years old. DOB June 24, 2004. She raced at 62 lbs and is a beautiful, brindle girl that doesn't look her age and doesn't have much white on her face yet. For whatever reason she didn't actually ever end up having puppies and didn't actually have much of a racing career either because of a broken hock early in her career. The hock is totally healed and you can't even see where it was broken now. She is very friendly, happy and loving with people. Kimmie passed her cat and small dog testing and has been fine with a small dog in her foster home after an initial sniff. She loves to play with stuffed toys that squeak and stole stuffed toy football of the shelf at Petco and laid on a bed squeaking it and playing with it for much of the day. She was a huge hit at her first meet and greet at Petco going up to kids and grownups for love. She is a confident girl that wasn't phased in the least by all the people, dogs and attention. She is a fun girl that would be another that would probably excel as a Therapy Dog.

Kimmie had many wonderful years with her family even though she was adopted as an older girl. She lived to the ripe old age of 16 years old and passed away in 2020. She loved to chase balls until the end even though her back legs wouldn't always allow her to run. She will be missed.

He just turned two on November 7th. His Sire is Kiowa Wish Frank and his dam is Pasampsi. He is a calm, well behaved boy that is sweet and friendly. He has been fostered in an apartment and is quiet and potties on leash nicely so would be perfect for an apartment or townhouse living and doesn't require a home with a fenced yard. He is good with kids, cats and small dogs. Just a wonderful, friendly loving gentleman.

Preacher man was adopted by the Brown family in 2013 and lived a happy life with them until he passed away from Cancer in October of 2020, just shy of his 9th birthday.

Gavin is a gorgeous guy that turned 3 on Nov 4th. He raced at 76lbs. He is doing well in his foster home with the small dogs and cats there so would be excellent for a home with small animals. Gavin loves playing with toys and the other dogs in his foster home. Although he is very shy, he warmed up to his foster family quickly and is very loving with his foster family. His trainers at the racing kennels said that he became very affectionate once he got to know them too and was only very shy initially. We think that a home without young, noisy children would be better for Gavin because of his shyness. It is only because of his shyness, Gavin is such a sensitive, gentle guy that we are sure he would never harm anyone or anything. While he has warmed up to his foster family quickly, he still tends to run away from visitors and people he doesn't know, so a quiet home without a lot of visitors and activity would probably suit him best. Gavin is likely to always be a real homebody that will be nervous out of his comfort zone. New things just make him very nervous. Because timid dogs tend to bolt when scared Gavin's ideal home would have a safely fenced yard for him to play in. Gavin's shyness is caused by not being handled by new people and exposed to new things as a puppy during that brief socialization window. He was never abused in any way and actually was very attached to his trainers. Gavin wants his family to know that even if he gets nervous and runs away the first time he meets them, he has a lot of love to give if they will just give him a little time to come out of his shell. Gavin is SUCH a sweet, loveable guy and is just gorgeous. If you have patience and a little time Gavin will reward you with all of his love. This is such a sweet, gorgeous, well behaved boy! Be sure to click on his other pictures. He is very photogenic and his foster home has taken lots of pictures of him.

Gavin was adopted in 2012 and lived 8 happy years with his family. He crossed the bridge in 2020 just shy of 11 years old. RIP Gavin.

Rocky passed his cat test at the track and has been fine with small dogs he has met. He plays nicely with the female greyhound in his foster home Rocky is a calm guy that is well behaved. He crated well and traveled well on his trip up from the track. He walked nicely on leash and eliminated on leash so might be able to go to a home without a fenced yard. Rocky seems like a friendly, happy guy that likes everyone he meets including the children in his foster home. He loves to give kisses. He is very smart and has learned quickly how to be a well behaved house dog. He learned how to walk on slippery wood floors by watching the other dogs do it and does stairs with no problem. Rocky lets you know when he needs to go outside too. He has a gorgeous shiny dark coat with very light almost silvery stripes. He is just stunning.

Rocky had a long happy life with his family before passing away at the age of 13. He was helped to cross he bridge after he was unable to walk and was diagnosed with pain and nerve damage due to old age. He will be missed by his family that loved him deeply.

Fozzie just arrived from the Birmingham Race Course. He is a traveler and raced 85 races at quite a few tracks though. He started out at Wheeling Downs in WV which is a tough track. He wasn't able to win a race there so was moved to Orange Park. He won one race there but then came in at the back of the pack for a few races so he was moved to an easier track still, Melbourne. He quickly got up to the top A level there. He also raced at Sanford Orlando before moving to Birmingham and he raced at A level at both of those tracks too. His last race in Birmingham was an A level race that he trailed in on Feb 21st. Fozzie is a 73lb red fawn male that just turned 3 on March 2nd. His sire is Gable Sour Cream and his dam is WW's Uh Huh. He passed his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either. He is described as a very calm guy that is very social, loving and sweet. His foster home says he is doing great there and is settling in very fast. He is doing great with their child too.

Fozzie was adopted in 2017 and lived just 3 years with his new family before suddenly collapsing suddenly on 10/20/20. The vet was unable to revive him. Gone to soon and he will be missed.

Ed raced 88 races at 79lbs so is a pretty big guy. He turned 4 on October 3rd. His sire is is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is the famous Dreamy Blossom so he has very good genes. Ed passed his cat and small dog tests so should be fine to live with either and he has lived with small dogs before. He also has done great with the kids he has met. He is a friendly, happy, very sweet guy. He has been in an adoptive home since November but had some separation anxiety when left totally alone without even any other dogs for company. Ed was fine in his foster home with other dogs around so we think he just needs to be placed in a home with another dog.

Rocket just arrived from the Southland race track in Arkansas where he was quite the star. He raced and won at the top AA level at there and it is one of the top tracks in the country. Rocket also competed in special Stakes races for the very fastest dogs at that track. This is an amazing racer! Rocket ran 121 races and is a taller guy at 78lbs. His sire is Flying Coal City and his dam is Bi's Hunter. Rocket will turn 4 on December 28th. Rocket is friendly and sweet and makes great eye contact. He has a lot of dark eyeliner around his eyes and is very cute staring up at you with those big eyes. He is a happy, bouncy, boy that is very loving and loves to be with his people. He bounces happily to see you when you come home but doesn't jump on you. Like most greyhounds he is very calm and naps a lot. He does make a little noise in this kennel so wouldn't be a good apartment or townhouse dog. He mainly makes noise when he is waiting his turn to go outside. Rocket is good on leash and will go potty on leash so may not need a fenced yard. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily and was very good with the free roaming cats in the vet's office. Rocket was a little stressed when he first came in so he does seem like a somewhat sensitive boy but he got over that within a few days. He isn't shy at all with people and did great at his first meet and greet at a huge Home and Garden Show. He is also doing very well with a toddler in his foster home. He playbows, spins and will do a cute little bark to try to get you to play with him. This is a very sweet, cute, superstar with a fun personality.

Rocket had a wonderful life with his family until he crossed the bridge due to soft tissue sarcoma on 9/29/20 at 9 years old.

Hotdog just retired from the Sanford Orlando race track but spent most of his racing career at Palm Beach. He has 45 races to his credit. Hotdog is a black male that raced at 75lbs. He just turned two on Feb 16th. His sire is Trent Lee and his dam is Jawa Whelton. Hotdog played nicely with all dogs at the dog park including small dogs. Even one that looked like a white rabbit. He came to us when we called him and followed us to the gate when we left. Hot Dog is so laid back, nothing bothers him & our female greyt is the boss which is fine with him. They play well together, he loves the stuffed toys. Walks perfectly on leash...no pulling. He is a counter surfer..so we've been working on that. He just loves everybody & is one happy dude!!! Potties outside in the yard and on leash. Not sure about cats yet still needs to be tested. He complains about being left in a crate sometimes so probably won't be a good choice to live in an apartment. Hopefully that may change some since he's getting more comfortable being in a home environment. Whoever gets this sweet boy will have an awesome friend and greyt dog!!

Hotdog had a great life and was very well loved. He crossed the bridge in early 2020. He will be missed.

Blackjack is a sweet, friendly, happy boy that will celebrate his 4th birthday on March 19th. He raced at 75lbs. Blackjack passed his cat and small dog test so should be fine living with either. He has been living with a small white dog in foster care with no problem. He is home acclimated and has great house manners already. Blackjack has a glossy black coat and is SO beautiful. We need to get some newer photos of him because the ones we have are from when he first arrived and didn't have a shiny coat and was a little too thin still. Blackjack is quiet in his crate and potties well on leash and was actually fostered for awhile in a townhouse so would be a great apartment dog. He gets along well with other dogs but seems like he would also be fine as an only dog. He isn't that interested in playing with toys but has a ball he likes. He will roll over, show his belly and wave his paws at you to get a belly rub. Blackjack's only negative is that he has been a little grouchy about his space occasionally when laying down. Just a growl, never a bite. It isn't something that happens often and has improved and only happened once in the last 4 or 5 months. We think he probably should be placed only with older children that will understand not to bother him when he is asleep or laying down though.

Jack moved to Maryland with his family and had a long happy life with them. Crossing the bridge 9/21/20. He will be missed.

Willy initially came in from the Sanford Orlando Race Track where he raced 122 races. He was pretty good and got up to the top A level briefly. Willy is a an extra large guy that raced at 83lbs. His sire is Gable Sour Cream and his dam is Sweetsouthern. He just turned 6 on December 24th. Willy is a very friendly, happy, confident guy. He was in an adoptive home since April of 2015, so he is already home acclimated. He loves people and does great at our meet and greets going up to each person for love. He is the rare greyhound that will actually bark at intruders that try to come into his home and yard though so would be a great dog for someone that wanted a watch dog. He loves to go out on walks and for drives and is very friendly with everyone he meets off of his own property though. He adores going for walks and potties great on leash so would be fine for a family without a fenced yard. Willy is a great guy with a fun, playful personality in short bursts. He is calm and well behaved in the house though. He loves to lay on the couch with his owner with his head in his lap and loves to snuggle. Because he can be protective of his property, we think he would do best in a quiet, adult only home that doesn't have guests often. Willy has had some grumpiness over his space when laying down and that is another reason we have him listed as no children. He has done great in his foster home living with other greyhounds and two smallish to medium sized dogs but Willy can be bossy with other dogs. Medium to large housemates are OK if they are submissive and OK with another dog being the leader of the pack. Willy has lived in a home as an only dog so would be perfect for a one dog household too. His foster mom says he is a super sweet guy and is perfectly behaved, clean in the home with no accidents, and sleeps quietly both in his crate and all night long. Willy may be a good choice for apartment living too.  If you like big greyhounds, Willy could be your guy!

Willy was adopted by the Shappard family in 2017 and they described him as the best dog they have ever had. He was loved by everyone who met him. He passed away in August of 2020 due to mast cell tumors on his liver and spleen. He will be missed.

He still looks a little rough because he arrived with lots of fleas which caused hair loss and a skin infection. They have been successfully treated but he needs some time for his hair to come back in. In a month or two Romeo will have a beautiful glossy black coat. So far he is doing great in his foster home and gets along well with all family members human and greyhound. He has picked up on house rules very quickly. Romeo has a very high prey drive so is not going to be able to live with cats or small dogs. He mistakes anything small for a squirrel or a bunny and wants to chase it. He loves to play in sprinklers and will bite at the water and has a great time as you can see in his photos.

Romeo was adopted by the Keener family in 2011 and had a wonderful life with them for 9 years. He passed away 8/15/20 from Lymphoma. He will be missed.

Army is a very tall guy that came in from the Lester Raines Kennel at Orange Park. We were very excited to get him because we just placed his mom Lee Lonnie! He raced all of his 34 races at Orange Park in FL. He mainly raced at the lower levels but did get as high as B level briefly. His racing weight is listed as 79 but he is very tall and lanky for that weight and is one of the taller guys we have seen. He turned 3 on September 24th. He doesn't have very many races for his age and it looks like he took several breaks from racing: One after his first race October 7th of 2017 until mid December and another from May 5th to June 3rd of 2018. Then from June 7th to December 9th 2018. So it looks like he had some kind of reoccurring injury. Looking at all the bumps and falls he had, it looks like he was very clumsy due to his size. He did heal up completely and went back to racing in December, but was slow, so was retired after 4 races. Army's sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Lee Lonnie. Army is a sweet, friendly guy that travels well and seems to kennel pretty well. He has made just a little noise occasionally in his kennel, but slept through the first night without making a peep. He liked the small kids he met and seemed to do well with the small dog he met too. He was interested in the cats at first and did a lot of sniffing, but lost interest on his own without even getting a slap from the cat. We only listed him as trainable because there was some initial interest in the cat. Army was fostered with cats and did very well with them. He jumps in and out of a SUV fine. He doesn't like to potty on leash so probably will need a fenced yard. He has decent leash manners and doesn't pull but does go from side to side to check things out. His foster home describes him as a lovable dofus. Army can be dramatic like so many greyhounds. He will give the greyhound scream of death sometimes if he doesn't like something, like having his nails done. He just needs someone that doesn't buy into his drama. He is tall enough that his back touches the top of the 48 inch long crate so he needs an extra tall 48" long crate or a 54" long dane sized crate. Army was in a home for a couple of months but he didn't do well there as an only dog. They called him Harvey. He is a sensitive guy that picks up on his owner's anxiety so needs a happy confident owner so he can be the confident happy guy he normally is.

Army was adopted by the Ahl Family and was only with them 16 months before passing away way due to Osteosarcoma. He was much too young, just a month shy of his 5th birthday. He will be missed.

Washy is a red female that just came in from a farm in Arkansas. She was a fantastic racer racing 162 races at the top AA levels at both Southland and Wheeling. She also was in some stakes races. Washy retired from racing in July of 2016 and went back to the farm to become a mom. She had two puppies in 2016 AMF Keep Wishing and AMF You Wish who are already retired and placed in adoption groups. Those are the only two puppies registered so far but she may have other litters that are under two and not registered or racing yet. Washy is a tiny 55lb girl. She is calm and friendly. She crates very quietly and seems good on leash. She cooperated very nicely during her bath and leaned against her foster mom and rubbed her nose on her. She jumped right up into her crate in the van on the trip home. Washy's sire is Kiowa WW Brother and her dam is AMF Push. She will turn 8 on December 15th. She passed her cat test without much interest and also seemed fine with the small dog she met. She liked the kids she met too.

Washy was adopted in 2019 and sadly only was with her family less than a year before she passed away in July of 2020. She will be missed.

Surfin is a small brindle male that raced at just 64lbs. He has the most beautiful shiny, dark red, brindle coat and cute ears that stand up all the time. He is very cute! He raced at Daytona Beach and then Birmingham AL. Most of his races were in Birmingham. He was pretty good getting up to the top A level of racing and being competitive enough to win at that level. He ran 113 races before quitting in the middle of his last race after being checked by another dog in June of 2014. His sire is Surf Lorian and his dam is JD She Hottie. Surfin turned 3 on August 10th. Surfin can be just a little timid at first in new situations but seems to love people and was happily wagging his tail at the vet clinic as soon as he got there.  Surfin is a pretty calm guy but does enjoy running a lap or two in the backyard. He did pass his cat and small dog test so should be fine in a home with either. He seemed to like a 7 year old boy that he met so we think he would be good with kids that age or older. He hasn't been tested with very small kids yet.

Surf was adopted by the Jones Family in 2015 and renamed Linus. Linus loved to run and chatter and was a talkative guy when he wanted something. He loved being sneaky. Linus had a wonderful retirement in his home and got lots of loves, snuggles and hugs. Linus passed away in 2020. He will be missed and never forgotten.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Latham Family in Lexington SC 6/23/13

Kitty is a gorgeous sable fawn with dark guard hairs in her coat over light fawn fur. Very unusual and striking. She has a lot of natural eyeliner. She retired in February from the Wheeling WV race track and we picked her up from the farm she went to when she retired. Kitty's sire is the famous Dodgem By Design and her dam is Huska Damsel. She will celebrate her 3rd birthday on June 22nd. Kitty was pretty shy when she first arrived but she has become a very outgoing friendly dog very quickly in her foster home. Now she greets strangers that come over happily and chooses to interact with them and follow them around. She walks perfectly on leash and travels well. She just gets into a vehicle and lays down for the entire trip. She crates quietly and potties very nicely on leash so may be a good choice for an apartment or townhouse without a fenced yard. She passed her cat test with no interest other than a casual sniff so should be fine to live with cats or small dogs. She seems like a very calm, laid back girl that should make an easy addition. She even was fine being outside when a chainsaw was being used and didn't seem phased by the loud noise. Kitty has developed a very silly fun personality. She loves to play with toys and can keep herself entertained by squeaking a toy and playing with it all by herself but would rather have a person join in the game with her. So far she really hasn't wanted to join in games with the other dogs in her foster home though.

Kitty has been diagnosed with SLO which is an auto immune disease that causes her toe nails to fall off. We have started the treatment of Fish oils and Niacinamide (b-vitamin). Her nails are growing back. She is likely to require continued vitamin supplements to keep her SLO from flaring up again. This is something that we see in greyhounds sometimes. She has returned to being able to run in the yard pretty normally now but when she has a flare up and loses her nails she will be tender footed and won't be able to go for long walks and won't be able to play until they heal up again. Fortunately the supplements to keep this in check aren't expensive and seem to be effective.

Kitty was adopted 2013 and lived 7 years with her family before passing away in June of 2020. She will be missed.

Adoption Status: Adopted by Adams, 2.4.11

Sissy is a small outgoing girl that loves people. She is a happy little girl that gives hugs and grins when she is happy. She has been home acclimated already. Her foster home says she is just a joy to have around and is very well behaved. Sissy has lived with cats for 6 months but played too rough with a kitten so would need to be placed only with other small animals that are very clear about not wanting to play with her. As tiny as she is, there is just too much of a size difference between cats and tiny dogs to allow them to play with a larger dog. Sissy would prefer a home with no children or older quiet children. She lived with a couple of very young children and didn't care for their level of activity and noise after a few months.

Sissy was adopted by Joan Adams in 2011 and had a wonderful life. She passed away in June of 2020 at the age of 13 after suddenly being unable to stand up. Her owner says there will never be another dog like Sissy. A one of a kind for sure and so sweet and gentle.

Noralie just arrived from the Kansas Farm where she has been living since she retired from racing. She was a great racer that traveled around and raced at a lot of tracks: Flagler, Naples Ft. Myers, Southland and Pensacola. She was consistently a top level A racer and even competed in big Stakes Races. So when she was retired she went back to the farm to be a mom. Her pups are too young to be registered yet so we aren't sure how many she has. Noralie raced at 62lbs and just turned 6 on January 6th. She is a bouncy, happy girl that loves people and is very outgoing. She is playful and doesn't act her age at all. She needs some work on walking on leash because she does pull. Her sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and we placed her mom Flying Northern. More as we get to know this gorgeous girl.

Noralie was adopted in May of 2017 and lived happily with her family until she passed away in May of 2020 just 3 years later at the age of 9.

Big Ugly is big but is definitely not ugly. He is a gorgeous rare blue brindle. His owner/trainer jokingly called him that because he was the opposite. He is a big guy racing at 80+lbs. He just celebrated his 2nd birthday on May 17th. His sire is Get Over and we actually adopted out his dam MRL Courageous last year. Big Ugly is a sweet friendly guy that loves to swim and run. The farm he was raised on has a lake in the middle of it so he is one of the rare greyhounds that actually knows how to swim. He raced at Tri State in WV for a short time but was at Orange Park in Jacksonville Fl for the rest of his career of 67 races. Big Ugly had one of our previous adopters waiting on him to retire so was adopted just as soon as he was vetted.

Salt or Big Ugly was adopted by the Ketchie Brenot family in 2013. He was with them until he passed away in May of 2020. He will be missed very much.

Suzanne is a gorgous, white girl with red spots that raced at 61lbs. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and her dam is Gable Ton. She just turned 5 on May 6th. Suzanne raced 168 races at Tri State in WV and Orange Park in Florida. She was a good racer, racing mostly at A level. She is a friendly girl with ears that sometimes stand straight up when she is excited. She seems pretty confident and curious and is very friendly and sweet. She did not pass her cat test at the track so needs a home with no kitties. She is fine with small dogs and is living in a foster home with a couple of them. She is a happy, friendly, well behaved girl that her foster dad described as "a sweet old soul". She does complain a bit about being left alone in a crate so probably wouldn't do well as an apartment dog. She is very smart and figured out the doggy door in her foster home right away. She gets along great with other male and female dogs in her foster home so would be a good choice for a family with several other dogs. She would be an easy addition for a first time greyhound owner and has been in a foster home for a little while so is already home acclimated. This is a great gilr and so pretty!!!

Suzie was adopted by the Collins family in 2014. She lived a long happy life and passed away in May of 2020 at the age of 11. She will be missed.

Emma is a lighter brindle female that is on the small side at 58lbs. She has cute little ears that stand straight up when she sees something she is interested in. She traveled well and was quiet in her crate all night. She has done well with the small dog in her foster home so seems like she will be OK in a home with small dogs. She is much to interested in chasing cats to be able to live with cats however. She is already great on leash and doesn't pull at all. She eats well and didn't even skip a meal with the stress of moving from the track to a new home. When you talk to her she wags her tail in happiness. Seems like she is going to be a great girl. More as we get to know her.

Emma was adopted in May of 2011 by the Gardner family. They had her until she was 13. She crossed the bridge on 4/15/20 after her hips gave out on her and she was unable to get up. Emma was an amazing, smart and very loving girl who had a long happy life.

His last race was Dec 14th. He will turn 4 on Feb 11th. He is a beautiful red brindle that raced at 78lbs. He is a pretty tall guy. His sire is BD's Grayson and his dam is Flying Snap Off. He passed our cat and small dog tests so should be able to live with either. He is a very calm, well behaved guy. His foster homes says he is one of the calmest that they have met. Babbagnoosh is a sweet, small, laid back boy that loves to play with toys. He is very shy and takes a long time to warm up to people, especially men, so would do best with at least one female in the family. His foster family says he is very loving once he warms up and is one of the sweetest fosters they have had. Babba is likely to be fearful at first in any new home for the first month or two and will respond to quick movements by fleeing to his crate. He needs an understanding family that is OK with this and will not give up on him. As shy as he is, he has never tried to snap and hasn't even growled in fear. He is a sweet gentle guy that will warm up if he is given enough time. Babba is definitely not a dog that will happily greet you at the door at first but he can become that after a few months. He gets along great with other dogs, both large & small and seems to be less nervous with other confident dogs around as a good example. His dream home would have a confident friendly dog in it for him to be pals with. He crates perfectly and will "talk" when he needs to go out. His foster mom says it is the funniest sound she has ever heard - it's as if he is trying to form actual words. Babba will do best with a fenced in yard as new things spook him while out on a leash. If you are willing to give this sweet guy plenty of time to warm up to you then he will be forever devoted and very loving. Babba would do best in a quiet, low-key home without active small children. Although he poses no threat to them, their quick movements and noise seem to make him uncomfortable and he will retreat to the safety of his crate. Babba tested cat tolerant. Because of his shy nature Babba has been waiting on a home for a long time so has had plenty of house experience and has done well with his potty training and house manners in his foster home. Please consider giving this very special little guy your heart.

Baba was adopted by the Pendergraft family in 2009. He had a long happy life and passed away April 5th of 2020 a few months shy of 14 years old.

Adoption Status: Adopted by Lindenfeld, 1.30.2014

Altamonte Al had a very successful racing career and was quite a big star at the track. Quite a few people came to tell him goodbye when he retired. He raced at a pretty thin 74lbs and looks better closer to 80lbs. Al has been in an adoptive home since April but they ended up having to move out of the country and aren't able to take him with them so decided to rehome him. He is already home acclimated! Al's date of birth is 11/12/08 so he just celebrated his 5th birthday. He is a happy, goofy guy that has personality to spare. So much so that he was a favorite with everyone he met at the track from lead outs to bettors. HIs trainers and the track personel had a hard time letting him go because they were so attached to Al and consider him a pet. His picture is up on the wall at the track.

Al is quite the snuggler and even though he is a big guy he is likely to want to get in your lap. He loves to get up and lay beside you or even in your lap while watching TV. Al loves toys and will throw them up and play with them himself and loves to chase them when they are thrown for him. He loves to go for walks and potties well on leash. Al was living in a townhouse in his previous home and did fine without a fenced yard. He is a higher energy greyhound and loves to play so might do better with a fenced yard to run around in, unless his family was willing to do walks or jogs with him so that he got enough exercise. He has too high of a prey drive to live with cats. He loves other greyhounds though and larger calmer dogs but just doesn't care for smaller dogs of other breeds that bounce around him and get in his face. His sire is Tony's Oracle which makes him a relative of quite a few other dogs we have placed. Al is the whole package. Just stunning to look at, loving and already home acclimated.

Al was in a wonderful home from 2014 to April of 2020 when he passed away due to Osteosarcoma. RIP Al you will be missed.

He just retired from the Birmingham Race Course and also raced at Pensacola and Southland tracks. He was a top A level racer and did compete in a big stakes race for the top racers at that track so he was a very fast guy. He just turned 5 on June 26th. He may be OK in a home with a very confident cat with supervision and training. No timid cats though. He did fine with the small dog he met and tried to get him to play with him.
