Kendal came in from the Palm Beach Race Track where she spent about half of her racing career of 57 races. She also raced at Orange Park. She mainly raced at the lower levels of racing but did win a few races and did a lot of placing. She is a small, light fawn female that raced at 58lbs. She seems really calm and well behaved and didn't make a peep in her kennel. She will turn 4 on August 1st. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is Mani Sweet. Kendall was adopted in January of this year and was renamed Kombi. She is being re-homed due to a work schedule change. She is now home for too long by herself every day and the person that comes to let her out in the afternoon is going to be unavailable soon. She does fine with 8 hours, but they are often gone longer than that. Her family has made the difficult decision to have us find her another home. Kombi has been living with a cat and a small dog. She lets the cat wash her and play with her. Her mom says that she is a very good girl and very well behaved. She has been living with older children, a 10 and an 18 year old and has been very good with them.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Whitson Family of Columbia SC 6/16/18

Greer just arrived from a farm in Arkansas. We aren't sure why she never raced but most of the rest of her litter did. All the girls in the litter were very good racing at the top levels and competing in Stakes races. Most of them went on to become Moms like Greer. Greer has a total of 11 puppies that have been registered to race so far but she could have another younger litter or two that has yet to be registered. She had one litter in 2014 that have all already been retired from racing. Greer had another litter in 2016 and most of those are racing right now. Greer will turn 7 on October 23rd. Since she never actually raced she doesn't have a racing weight but we would guess her to be around 60lbs. Her sire is the famous Rhythmless and her dam is Pawn Of Ruckus. Greer is timid at first and seems pretty overwhelmed by all the changes in her life. She is very calm and quiet and likes the safety of her crate so far. She seems like a very laid back girl but may just need time to get more comfortable before she gets confident enough to show her personality. She isn't terribly shy or scared of people, she is just unsure. Greer passed her cat and small dog tests so should do fine in a home with either one. More as we get to know her.

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Arrowood Family of Morgonton NC 6/15/18

Journey just came in from the Sanford Orlando Track. He is an extra large male racing at 88lbs. He raced 43 races and started out racing at Southland in Arkansas. He only raced a few races there and was moved to Sanford Orlando for the rest of his career. He got up to the top A level briefly. He injured his hock on January 6th and hasn't raced since then. He was healed up and rehabbed at the track in hopes he could return to racing, but after he ran a couple of practice runs his trainer decided to retire him rather than risk him re-injuring the hock. Journey is a gentle giant of a dog. He has no idea he is the biggest dog in the kennel and is actually sensitive and a bit timid. He may need some time to warm up to a new family. Journey was overwhelmed when he got into foster care. He still wagged his tail a little and approached cautiously if called. He would shy away from fast movements and loud noises. Journey caught onto the steps to go outside pretty fast after being afraid to try them the first time. He passed his cat test so should be able to live with cats or small dogs. He is a beautiful black male that will turn 3 August 21st. His sire is the famous Djays Octane and his dam is Prickly Pooch. He seems like a timid sensitive boy that will warm up pretty fast to his new home and family. He is quiet in his kennel and eats well even when stressed. He hasn't skipped a meal and seems to be adjusting well to his new food.

Talker just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race Track. She is a large female racing at 74lbs. She raced at Southland for awhile but raced most of her career of 129 races at Sanford Orlando. She did get up to the top A level races at Orlando. Talker will turn 4 on July 24th. Her sire is Tyrur Alex* and her dam is All Access Pass. We placed her littermate On The Flip Side and another girl that is arriving with her, Team Player, shares the same mom but has a different dad. Talker passed her cat test so should be fine to live with cats and small dogs. Her trainer says she is pretty calm and relaxed except at lunch time. She gets excited about eating. Talker is very outgoing and sweet. She is great on stairs and doesn't seemed over concerned or afraid of anything. She adapted to her foster home and acted like she had always been there from the first day. Her littermate's adopters have decided to adopt Talker too! She will be going home with her brother Flip as soon as she has her vetting and will probably be called Pip.

Adoption Status: Adopted to the Longo family of Augusta GA 6/12/18

Judith just arrived from a farm in Arkansas. She had a long career as a racer with 151 races. She started out at Wheeling in WV and then was moved to Tri-State, also in WV. She raced the top A and AA levels most of her career at Tri State and was quite the star winning a lot of races. When she retired from racing in December of 2013 she went back to the farm to be a mom. Judith had one litter of 7 puppies in May of 2015. She did not pass on her talent to her kids and that litter has already retired from racing and some never raced at all. Judith may have had other litters that haven't been registered yet, since then. Judith is a fuzzy black female that still has her thick farm coat from spending a lot of time outside. It is sun bleached so she will look chocolate brown until it all sheds out and then will be glossy black with a normal short greyhound coat. Judith raced at 62lbs. Her sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and her dam is Shelbourne Jess*. She turned 9 on January 1st and she raced at 62lbs. Judith is a friendly, happy girl that took her trip from the farm to her foster home in stride. She traveled well and just got into the vehicle and laid down. She wasn't nervous walking on shiny floors or going up and down stairs. She seems pretty easy going and not much stresses her. She passed her cat and small dog tests and likes people. She got along well with the other females on the trip. More as we get to know her.

Fostered by (location):

Adoption Status: Adopted by the Freshwater Family of Charleston SC 6/10/18

Cabrera came in from the Sarasota Race Track. She also raced at Ebro and Orange Park. Even though she raced 123 races, she wasn't really fast. She was only competitive at the lower D levels of racing and placed in the money just enough to keep racing. She raced at 65lbs and just turned 4 on May 20th. Cabrera's sire is the famous Gable Sour Cream and her dam is Ozark Beth. Cabrera is a happy, friendly girl that will make a great pet. She liked the cats she met a little too much to be able to live with them. She did fine with a whippet that she is being fostered with and some smaller dogs she met. Although she is being fostered with children and likes them, we have noticed that she can be a little protective of her space when she is laying down so we would prefer to place her only with a family without small children that wouldn't understand that old saying "Let A sleeping dog lie." Cabrera is very loving and so sweet that her foster home was really wanting to keep her permanently but with their small kids she wouldn't work on a permanent basis.

Buckwheat came to us from Jimmy King at the Naples Ft Myers Race Track. He raced 66 races and also raced at Flagler. Buckwheat only won 5 of his races but placed a lot. He is a 71lb black male that will turn 4 on August 19th. His sire is the very famous DJays Octane and his dam is Too Cool Cathi. According to his trainer, Buckwheat can be a little timid at first in new situations but once he gets to know you, he will be your best friend. Buckwheat is such a good boy! He is quiet in his crate while his foster family is at work. He lays right down on his bed at night and sleeps through the night. He plays well with the other greyhounds in his foster home. He is happy and his tail wags all the time. He was a little curious about the cat at first but after she swatted him once he is more cautious around her. He tries to get her to play but is polite when she says no. Buckwheat has the sweetest personality and is so shiny and beautiful. He already knows how to fetch a ball too! He also passed his cat and small dog tests so could live with either. He seems to like kids too. This is an all around great guy.

Sally came in from Oxbow Trow Kennel at the Naples Ft Myers Race Track. She just raced 14 races and won only 1 of them. She rarely placed so was retired young. Sally is a white girl with black spots that just turned 2 on May 27th. She still has a puppy look to her face and still has some playful puppy energy too. Sally raced at 62lbs. Her sire is the famous Kiowa Myth and her dam is Wayward Angel. She is a very sweet girl. She was a little interested in the cat when she met it but lost interest quickly. Sally was in a foster home with cats and did fine there. She has done well with the small dog she has met but wants to play with him so needs a home with a small dog that is at least big enough to play with safely. She does really like kids. Sally is a friendly girl that loves people. She is mostly quiet in her kennel but does occasionally make some noise. She is young and still learning manners so will need supervision until she learns the rules.

Holly just arrived from the Jacobs Racing Kennel at the Naples Ft Myers Race track. She only raced 29 races there and at the Flagler track but she wasn't able to win one of them. Holly usually was toward the back of the pack and looks like she may be little accident prone because she fell in several of her races. She is a red female that raced at 62lbs. Holly turned 2 on February 12th. Her sire is Shonn and her dam is Glossy Glow. Holly is very sweet and friendly. She is a natural sitter which is unusual for the breed. Most aren't comfortable in the sit position by the time they reach full growth. She is mostly quiet in the crate but does complain a little. Holly passed her cat test easily with just a calm sniff. The cat slapped her and she backed off and wasn't interested in going back. She also has been fine with the small dogs she has met. A really sweet girl.

Ace was consistently racing at the top A levels and competed in many Stakes races that are reserved for the fastest greyhounds at that track. He won some of those races too and was a 2015 Naples Floridian Finalist. He is coming in from Jimmy King at the Flagler track and we are thrilled to be able to meet and place a star like Ace. We wish he could sign autographs. His sire is the very famous Trent Lee and his dam is Kiowa WW Ring. Ace raced at 74lbs and turned 5 on February 21st. Ace has an awesome friendly personality. He is very calm and seems like he would be a very easy first greyhound. He was not interested in the cat at all so should be great living in a home with cats and small dogs. Very sweet guy! He is an adorable little guy that raced at just 64lbs, which is really small for a boy. He has the cutest, unusual for a greyhound, roman nose!  His sire is TK Quick Strike and his dam is Oh Yeah Baby. Steve was too interested in chasing the cats to be able to live with kitties. He was great with a small white dog he met though. Since he has arrived Steve has been really friendly and happy but his trainer says that he is a sensitive guy that has just a bit of a timid side to him occasionally. He wanted to help drive at first, then settled down and went to sleep on the trip up and didn't seem shy or timid at all. Steve seems like he will be a playful, fun guy but only for short spurts. He loves to lay around most of the day and is calm for a young guy. He likes the kids in his foster home and is very well behaved. What a great guy and so cute!!

Special Needs Boy That Has Been With Us The Longest! Hitch is a handsome, black guy that came to us from the Daytona Beach Race Track. He is a smaller guy that raced at 66lbs. Hitch raced 30 races and only managed to win one of his races so was retired young. He just turned 3 on April 23rd. His sire is P's Gibbs and is dam is Kiowa Super Cin. Hitch has an auto immune caused dry eye condition, where the tear ducts just suddenly stopped producing any tears. Hitch's eyes were OK when he began racing and his last race was August 8th. When his trainer noticed that his eyes became dry, he was started on antibiotic treatment, lubricating drops and eye flushes at the track. Hitch was at the track waiting on a group to take him from August to December. We got Hitch from the track at the end of December and have worked with our vet and eye specialists to resolve his eye issue.  Our vet started him on prescription lubricating eye drops that were given several times a day when he arrived. Unfortunately that medication didn't work well and he developed a deep ulcer on one eye and had to have emergency surgery to save the eye. When he went in for a recheck on that eye, ulcers were also found on the other eye. So Hitch had to have another emergency surgery on that eye too. One surgery was $2200 and the other was $1800. The eye specialist came up with another treatment plan with drops that can be given several times a day that work to keep his eyes lubricated. This treatment has been successful and he seems to be pain free now and he he is able to see!! So Hitch has finally been released for adoption after 4 months. Hitch is an exceptionally sweet guy that has a wonderful personality, in spite of all the trouble he had with his eyes and the pain he was in. He has been very cooperative with the vets and staff during his surgeries and treatment. Once Hitches' eyes stopped hurting all the time and he could see again, he went from a subdued dog that liked staying in his crate with his eyes closed, to a silly, happy, playful guy. Hitch passed his cat and small dog tests easily, and has been fostered with both so is used to being around them. Hitch has been going to work every day with his foster mom and is very well behaved in the office and enjoys the attention from her coworkers. The pictures of Hitch with the gunk around his eyes were taken when he first arrived. The ones with shaved patches around his eyes were taken right after surgery. The one with Hitch wearing the cone was taken some time after the surgeries and you can see the red grafts. The hair has grown back now and his eyes are clear, but each eye has a reddish patch where a surgical graft was put on to patch the holes in his eyes. You can see the graft in the more recent pictures taken in April with the toy, standing on the wood floor and with the green circle drawn around the eye.

If you are considering adopting this special guy, these are the medications that Hitch is on and what they cost: Twice daily drops of compounded 1% Tacrolimus morning and evening ($75 for 2.5 -3 months supply). Drops of artificial tears several times a day: morning, after work, and right before bed would work (cheap and available over the counter). One drop of Fluriprofin 1 time per day whenever convenient ($12 to $25 dollars depending on where it is purchased, one bottle lasts months). Hitch will need rechecks of his eyes twice a year. Hitch doesn't need drops at night when he is just sleeping. Because of generous donations toward his adoption fee, Hitch's fee will be just $50 and he will come with at least a month's worth of medications. He will need to continue his medications for life.

We have spent nearly $5000 on Hitch's two surgeries, hospital stays and with the specialist trying different medications until we found a treatment that worked. If you would like to help with Hitch's medical expenses please go to our donation page. We appreciate all the donations that have come in for Hitch already!

Piper initially came to us from a greyhound farm and at that time she was called Hunter. She just had no prey drive and wouldn't chase anything so never even made it to the race track. Her sire is Flying Coal City and her dam is Cbar Bigspender. We got her before her 2nd birthday and she has been in a wonderful adoptive home since then. Piper will turn 5 on June 26th. Piper's family made the difficult decision to re-home her because she is panting, stressed and staying in her kennel since the birth of their third child. They had one baby when they adopted her and she was fantastic with him. They had a 2nd child after they adopted Piper that is now a toddler, and just added a 3rd new baby to the mix. Hunter can be a little jumpy and timid in new situations but loves people and really loves to snuggle with people. She is such a sweet loving dog, but loud voices or quick movements can make her skitter away temporarily. She is very quiet in her kennel so may do well in a townhouse or apartment. Hunter potties really well outside as soon as you put her out. She does tend to freeze up a bit on leash when confronted with something new and scary so needs a little work on that. Hunter is a very sweet, timid young girl that hasn't seen much of the world yet and needs some exposure to new things. She is so beautiful with all that eyeliner.

Coco just arrived from the CTW Greyhound Farm in Texas by way of the Birmingham Race Track. Coco arrived with her sister Jojo. Neither one of them actually raced. They failed out of race training because they would come out of the box and go straight to the nearest person for love instead of chasing the lure. Just no prey drive or chase drive at all. They are both tattooed Left ear 68886 and right ears are 66a and 66b. So they started the registration process but never completed it to get a registered racing name. One of their sisters, CTW Sugarfoot did complete the registration process so we have all of Coco and Jojo's info on the database through her. We don't have a weight on the girls but their sister is racing at 60lbs so chances are that they are a similar size. Their sire is Trent Lee and their dam is CTW Starlet. They will turn 2 on June 11th. With not even enough prey drive to chase a lure, both should be fine with cats, small dogs and other small critters. There are children on the farm they were raised on that help take care of the dogs so they should be very used to being around kids too. More as we get to know these girls.

Her sire is the famous Pat C Clement and her dam is Canttellmenothin. Brady is a happy, friendly girl that seems to have a lot of personality. She is very sweet and passed her cat test easily and also was fine with the small dogs she met. She traveled very well and just hopped in the van and laid down. More as we get to know her.

Aggie retired from the Sanford Orlando Race track in November of 2017. She also raced some of her 67 races at Mardi Gras Racetrack and Palm Beach. She mainly raced at the lower levels and wasn't really very good but she did manage to win 8 races. Aggie raced at 61lbs and turned 3 on September 22nd. Her sire is the famous Gable Sour Cream and her dam is Macs Lonesomeluv. Aggie was adopted on January 6th of this year, but has not done well as an only dog. Her family tried to work her through her separation anxiety, but finally decided to return her to us so she could be placed in an adoptive home that had other dogs. She has done fine and shown no separation anxiety since she has been back with us. She has been great with the other dogs in her foster home and has kenneled nicely too. Aggie is being fostered with kids and likes kids a lot. She is an excellent meet and greet dog, going to each person for petting that comes up. She has no sense of personal space and loves to snuggle with other dogs and humans. Really a sweet girl. She may need a fenced yard because she likes to take her time to go potty and likes to find just the right spot.

Xander is a friendly, happy brindle guy that raced at 70lbs. He just arrived from the Mardi Gras Race Track. He also raced at Naples Ft Myers and Valley. He only raced 38 races but did win enough to get up to the top A level so was pretty good. His sire is the very famous Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is CTU Side Party. Xander passed his cat test with just a little initial interest at first. After a thorough sniffing, he decided that there were more interesting things to sniff than the cat and totally lost interest. He also did fine with the small dog he met. He seems like a fairly confident guy that may be a natural leader. His ears stay straight up a lot and one flips over his head sometimes, which just makes him stand out in a crowd and is very cute. Xander turns 3 on June 7th. He is a friendly guy that seems like he will be very loving and sweet.

Black House is a gorgeous, large, 79lb, black male that came in from the Mardi Gras Race Track in Florida. He only raced 26 races and also raced at the Dubuque Track. He only won 2 races in his career so was retired young. He won't turn 3 until August 24th. He is a very calm, laid back guy that is very sweet but very shy. House warmed up to his foster family after a few weeks, but gets very overwhelmed and scared in new places and can be very shy with new people. Nothing bad ever happened to him, he just has a shy, timid personality. He is more of a homebody that usually prefers his familiar environment. He does jump right in the SUV and likes to go for drives though and actually seemed to enjoy the attention of people at a recent PetSmart meet and greet. So he may eventually do better in new situations with more exposure. House does walk pretty well on harness and leash. He is doing great with the children in his foster home and the other dog. With most shy dogs, a house full of loud children may be overwhelming, so if we place him with kids it would be best if it they were quieter kids. House showed no interest in chasing cats when he met them and was more interested in getting into the safety of a familiar crate at the scary vet office. He is normally really well behaved and corrects easily if he does anything wrong. Once he warms up to you he is a happy waggy guy that is very loving. House seems like he will make a wonderful pet. He is just a very sensitive guy that will need time to warm up to new situations and a new family. He generally likes his crate and looks on it as his safe place but can make some noise in it, so probably wouldn't be the best apartment dog. House's sire is the famous SH Avatar and his dam is Lookn Even Finer.

She pulled up and slowed way down in her last race on March 31st. She finished so far back that she wasn't in the picture at the end so was retired. Sara also raced at Bluffs Run, Naples Ft Myers and Flagler tracks early on in her career. She will turn 5 on November 9th and she raced at 63lbs. Her sire is DJays Octane and her dam is Boc's Sarasota. We have actually placed several of Sarasota's littermates.  Sara was a kennel pet and favorite at the track. She has a very outgoing social personality and is a happy silly girl with a wonderful personality. She passed her cat and small dog tests. She sniffed them both and wouldn't get near the cat again after it slapped her for sniffing it one time. More as we get to know Sara.

Gunner just arrived from a kennel at the Sarasota Race Track. He also raced at Ebro and Orange Park. He raced 73 races but only won 6 of those so he mainly just placed. He is a big guy that raced at 82lbs. He turned 3 on February 4th. His sire is Kiowa Sweet Trey and his dam is Oshkosh Paris. Gunner is a very sweet, friendly guy that doesn't know a stranger. He will stare up into your eyes and carefully watch what is going on around him with the cutest look on his face. We aren't sure how good his eyesight is though and are having our vet check his eyes. His eyes look completely normal, but his vision just seems like it might be limited. He runs and plays and acts totally normal and it is more noticeable with things up close to him. Gunner was completely sure he could drive the van at first though. He did lay down pretty quickly and travelled well. He goes potty nicely on leash, so may do fine without a fenced yard with regular leash walks. He seems to get along well with other dogs and has liked other dogs he has met both large and small. He gets overly excited about cats though even though he wasn't completely sure where the cat was during most of the cat test. Just the smell of the cat and whatever he could see of the shape of the cat was pretty exciting to him, so he needs a home with no cats. Small dogs seem to be fine though even if cat sized. Gunner is just the most precious, loving guy. He will be your shadow. He is the cutest guy!

Sweet Pete just arrived from the Birmingham AL Race Course Track adoption kennel. He never actually raced there, but was one that was sent there because they transport a lot of retired dogs to other adoption groups across the country, including ours. He raced 126 races all at the Palm Beach Race Track in Florida. He was a pretty good racer racing a lot of his career at the top A level and even winning A level races. Sweet Pete is a stunning 76lb dark brindle guy that is a rich mahogany red with black stripes. He has the most beautiful shiny coat. Just stunning! Sweet Pete turned 4 on December 8th. He is a strong guy that needs some reminders on walking nicely on leash because he gets excited and wants to see everything at once. He is very friendly and has loved all the people he has met. Sweet Pete just couldn't resist chasing the cat, so he needs a home with no kitties. He was better with the little dog he met and just sniffed him politely but was initially interested in him at a distance before he knew what he was. He just needs a careful intro to small dogs that might look like bunnies or squirrels. Sweet Pete's sire is the famous Gable Sour Cream and his dam is AMF Blazing Sun. Pete is being fostered with a 6 year old child and really seems to enjoy being around her. We listed him as "older kids only" because he could knock over a toddler accidentally when he was being bouncy, happy and silly. Pete is more energetic and fun than the typical couch potato greyhound. He would be the perfect choice for a family that likes to go for walks or hikes. Sweet Pete will enjoy a more active lifestyle than most. Pete does complain about being in his kennel, so would not be a good choice for apartment or townhouse living.

He was moved around hoping to find a track where he would be competitive but he kept coming in near the back of the pack. Brody raced 39 races and only won 1 of those so was finally retired. He is still young and won't turn 3 until June 6th. His sire is the famous Lonesome Cry and his dam is Atascocita Avery. He is a very outgoing, happy, boy with a tail that wags happily all the time. Brody seems to love everyone he meets and doesn't seem to be bothered a bit by the sudden change in his life and so many new things and experiences. He does need some work on his leash walking because he is so curious about everything and wants to go check out everything. Brody passed his cat and small dog tests easily. The cat slapped him before he even noticed it and he stayed away from it after that. Brody is seems like a bouncy, higher energy guy that is going to be playful and fun.

She did eventually start running but never was very good, so was retired really young. She just turned 2 on April 13th. Her sire is Definitely Opinion and her dam is SH Kung Fu Kathy. Hoity Toity is a red female that weighs 60lbs. Hoity Toity passed her cat and small dog tests easily and really doesn't seem to have much of a prey drive. She is quiet in her kennel and very sweet. Hoity Toity was a little overwhelmed by everything new but isn't really shy and seems to like everyone she has met. Just a little cautious at first and keeps her tail tucked in new situations. She plays well with other dogs even when first meeting them. She seems like a girl that will be calm in the house and in her kennel, but will be ready to play with her buddies outside for short spurts. She has the biggest expressive eyes. Hoity Toity has been fostered in a home with cats and has been doing great with them. She is a very sweet girl and is so cute!

Icon is a gentle 86 lb giant that just came in from the Birmingham Race Track Adoption Kennel. He never actually raced there but was just sent to their adoption kennel to place with one of the adoption groups they work with. Icon was one of the best racers, getting up to the very top AA level, at the best track in the country- Southland in Arkansas. He also raced at another top track, Wheeling in WV, then Mardi Gras, Dubuque and finally Sarasota. He raced 153 races. Icon broke his leg on January 6th of 2018. He was casted for 6 weeks and put into a soft splint for 2 after that at the track. His splint was removed by the time he got to us and we sent him to Pro Greyhound for rehab. He is finished with that now and has been released for adoption. He will still need a month or two more of reduced activity where he takes it easy on the leg. He shouldn't run around and play with other dogs yet outside for awhile to be sure the leg is very strong. Icon is huge. He raced at a very tall 86lbs. His back comes up to our hip, probably around 31 or 32 inches at the shoulder. Icon has a gorgeous shiny black coat. He is friendly and happy. Icon travels really well and is silent in his crate so may be a good choice to live in an apartment or townhouse. He loves to put his head in your lap for petting and seems pretty calm indoors. Icon can be playful, silly and bouncy outside. Because of his old injury  Icon may not enjoy long hikes. He loves to go for shorter walks though and can easily support his weight and uses his leg. He is a great guy and his foster home just loves his personality. He is a really good guy that seems to want to please and just wants love. He passed his cat and small dog tests easily with no desire to chase either. He seems to like other dogs and gets along extremely well with the large pack of dogs that his foster home has. He is just a friendly easy going guy that loves everyone he meets. Icon's sire is the very famous DJays Octane and his dam is Silver Idol. He just turned 5 on April 1st.

He raced a total of 60 races at Orange Park in Jacksonville Florida and Daytona Beach Florida. He only ever won one race though. He did place some, which kept him racing at the lowest beginner level for awhile. He was retired the end of December and has been waiting on a group to take him since then. Gallant will turn 3 on August 9th. His sire is Aerial Battle and his dam is WW's Kuniya. He was too interested in the cat to be able to live with one. He did fine with the small dog he met though. After only one day in his foster home his foster mom asked if he had lived in a home before. He was perfectly behaved and acted like he was already house trained. As far as we know, he has lived in the kennel, but we don't have a lot of history on him to know for sure. Either way he is a very very good boy that should be an easy, well behaved addition to about any home. He seems to learn fast and want to please. He is very good in his kennel. He loves people and will just stand next to you for love as long as you will pet him. He is a very lovable guy. Gallant was adopted briefly and when he returned to our group his original foster family decided that he should stay with them.

Gaby will turn 5 on June 8th. Gaby is a friendly, happy girl. She passed her cat test easily and seemed like she already knew that cats have claws and refused to go near the kitty. She is also fine with small dogs. Gaby is very sweet and will sit and lean up against the front of your legs for attention. She is a waggy, happy girl that doesn't seem fazed by anything new so seems like she will do well very fast with her new family. She is very loving and just loves to be close to her humans. She did like the small kids she met briefly but has not been around small kids long term yet. She can complain a bit about being in her kennel, so probably wouldn't be a good apartment dog. He was sent there because they transport dogs to adoption groups across the country. He actually raced 132 races mostly at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. He also raced briefly at Palm Beach in FL. He raced most of his career at the mid levels of racing but did get up to the top A level a few times and did win some races. He retired February 12th and has been waiting since then for a group to take him. His sire is Turbo Lennie and his dam is Gable India. Lancelot was way too interested in chasing cats to be able to live with them, but he did fine with a small Italian greyhound he met after sniffing it and realizing it was a dog. He should be fine to live with small dogs with a proper introduction. At a distance he tends to mistake most small critters for bunnies though. Lancelot is a big strong boy that needs some work on walking on leash because he wants to check out everything at once. He is very friendly and happy and just a sweet, confident, social guy. Because he is so big and strong we think he would do best in a home with no small kids that he could accidentally knock over. Lancelot could be your knight in shining, black, furry armor! Reilly is a sweet, friendly, girl that is mostly quiet and calm in her crate. She only occasionally makes noise but may not work for apartment living because of that. She seems very well behaved and gets along well with other dogs. She just turned 3 on Feb 16th. Reilly is a friendly girl that has liked everyone she has met. She wanted to chase the cat a little too much so we want to place her in a home with no cats. *HAS BEEN WAITING ON A HOME THE LONGEST* Tiger Lady is a retired brood mom that had a litter of 7 puppies in 2015 that are already racing and another litter after that that is still on the farm. She is retired from being a mom now and looking for a couch. She is still young and just turned 5 on February 16th. She raced at Southland, Flagler, and Naples Ft Myers but never was really good. In her last race, in April of 2015, she just quit running so was retired right away. She raced at 72lbs so is pretty big for a female. Her sire is Tiger Boy, a famous dog that one of our volunteers owns. Tiger Lady is actually fostered by her dad's owner. Her mom is BA My Charity. Tiger Lady is a calm, laid back girl. She can be a little timid at first with strangers and seems to prefer women over men at first. She does warm up and gets very excited to see her foster dad now though. She seems to like the kids she has met, but because she can be a bit timid, is likely to be overwhelmed living with very loud wild little kids or a lot of kids. She would do better in a quiet home. Lady passed her cat and small dog tests easily and was more cautious around them and not interested in chasing them. She is a very sweet girl that has been available for adoption since November without much interest only because she is a little shy and because black dogs tend to get overlooked and are often the last ones placed. In her picture her nose looks a little crooked, but it is not. She was just sniffing the air. She is a gorgeous, sweet, girl that has been waiting on the right home for a very long time.

Poppy is a cute, friendly, brindle girl that just turned 5 on March 15th. She raced 142 races, mostly at Palm Beach but also raced some at Bluffs Run. Poppy raced mostly at the mid level C and B races but did make it up to the top A level one time. Her last race was March 10th of 2018. She raced at 64lbs. Her sire is the famous Rhythmless and her dam is Keen Katy. Poppy was a little interested in the cat when she first saw it, but calmed down after she sniffed it and realized what it was. We think she would be trainable with cats with a careful introduction and she is being fostered in a home with cats. Poppy was fine with the yorkie and italian greyhound that she met and is being fostered with a small dog. She is great on walks and has been settling in to foster care very well. She has been fostered in a townhouse and is pretty quiet in her kennel so may be good for apartment or townhouse living. Poppy is a very sweet girl that is pretty calm and friendly. She is missing about half of one ear due to some rough play with her littermates as a puppy. This just makes her cuter.

Maverick is an older gentleman that is looking for a new home because his previous owner died suddenly. He lived peacefully with 5 other greyhounds there, that have all been placed already, so we do fine in a home with other dogs. Maverick will turn 9 on May 24th so qualifies for our reduced adoption fee of $250. Maverick has been retired and in his home since Dec of 2011. He was known as 'Satin' at the track had a very brief unsuccessful racing career of 23 races and only ever won one of those. He actually stopped running in the middle of one race. He raced a few races at Palm Beach, then a few at Naples Ft Myers, Flagler and finally finished up at Orange Park in Jacksonville. His owner tried to find a track that he would be competitive at, but Maverick just didn't have his heart into chasing a lure, so was retired young. He was initially placed by the adoption kennel at the track in Jacksonville and was returned to them when his owner passed away. We picked him up from them on a recent track trip. Maverick raced at 75lbs so is a mid sized male. His sire is the very famous Dodgem By Design and that is where he inherited his cute floppy ears. His dam is Surprise Plan. Maverick is a pretty calm guy that still has very short bursts of playful energy. He has good house manners and is friendly and loving. He is in good health and has had excellent care by his previous owner. Maverick likes kids and has been fine with the small dogs and cats he has met so should be good to live with them. He did live with a number of other dogs in his previous home and gets along well with others. This is a super sweet boy that just wants some love and petting.

After her short winning streak she went back to placing in the tougher, higher level races. She pulled up in her last race on November 22nd and has been at the track since then. She had pulled her back in that race, so was taken out of racing then, rested and rehabbed. She has been at the track since then, in hopes she could return to racing eventually. That didn't happen, so they just decided to retire her. Naju's entire litter were named for cities in Korea. Her sire is SH Avatar and her dam is Party Hardy. Naju passed her cat and small dog tests easily and seemed a little nervous around both and preferred to stay her distance. Naju got up the courage to sniff the small dog eventually but never even wanted to get near the cat. She has been pretty overwhelmed since her arrival and seems like she may be a pretty, timid, shy girl. Sometimes they come around quickly after they settle in so we should know more soon. Naju will turn 3 on July 11th.

Rip just arrived from the Sanford Orlando Race track. He also raced at Naples Ft Myers, Flagler, Mardi Gras, and Gulf. He got up to B level at several tracks and was moved around to find the place he would be the most competitive. His last race was in November and he was retired because of a sore Tensor Fascia in his hip. It is long healed and Rip is a bouncy, happy boy that does the greyhound grin when excited. He has a lot of personality and the most beautiful shiny black coat. He is a shorter, stocky guy that raced at 77lbs. He looks like a body builder with all his muscles, even after not racing for many months. Ripper is a gorgeous guy that just turned 4 on March 3rd. His sire is the famous DJays Octane and his dam is KB's Best Crunch. Rip was very interested in the cat when he met it but after a smack from the cat decided he didn't want to chase cats anymore. He may be trainable with supervision and a confident cat. He is very friendly and bouncy and higher energy than typical. He whines a little in his crate so may not be the best for apartment living but has quieted down nicely in his foster home with time. Rip is very devoted to his people and very good on leash. He often walks in nearly the perfect heel position staring up into your eyes like an obedience dog. He seems to mind well and tries hard to please. He is a wonderful guy that seems to like kids. He has adjusted well to foster care and is good with the other dogs small and large in his foster home. He just has the sweetest personality.

Shades just arrived from the Orange Park Race Track in Jacksonville FL. She has 99 races listed and also raced at Wheeling Downs in WV. She was a very good racer that got up to A level at Wheeling, which is quite the accomplishment, since it is a fast track. Her last race was Nov 9th and she finished so far back that she was out of the picture. When you see Shades you understand where her name came from. She has brindle spots over each eye that look a lot like sunglasses and she is mostly white otherwise. Her sire is Super Lee and her dam is Briecat. Shades will turn 4 on May 28th and raced at 62lbs. Shades passed her cat test with only a little initial curiosity about them so should do OK with some initial supervision. She also passed her small dog test and spent the weekend with a small dog in a home and was fine. Shades can be grumpy about her space and doesn't care for kids invading her space, so will need a home with no little kids. She has gotten along fine playing with other dogs in her foster home but doesn't like other dogs coming around her when she is eating or laying down. She is a beautiful girl and seems to know it. She can be a bit of a diva. She loves adults and will seek out affection by putting her head in your lap to be petted and her preference is to be with her people if she is awake. She is very laid back and calm and does nap a lot. She does roo if left alone in her crate so may not be the best dog for apartment living. We found out on a recent walk that Shades loves water and will walk right into a lake or stream to cool off even if the water is pretty cold.

Doug Stamper's litter was named for the characters on the Netflix series House of Cards. We have already placed several dogs in his litter Frank Underwood, Heather Dunbar, and Skorsky and most of the others are still racing at the Sanford Orlando Race Track. Doug is a really big red male that raced at 86lbs. He will turn 4 on October 29th. Doug raced 89 races, mostly at the lower C and D levels but did get up to A one time. He raced at Derby Lane and Orlando. Doug is a friendly, happy guy that is very sweet. His sire is the famous KC and All and his dam is D's Honey Badger. Doug lays down to eat. He does have moments of excitement though and just loves to chase tennis balls. He also got way too excited when meeting the cat and a really tiny dog to be able to live with them. He did better with a 15lb Italian Greyhound after he was allowed to sniff him thoroughly. He seems like he just needs a careful introduction and should do OK with medium sized dogs and larger. Doug is a really cute guy that seems like a gentle giant. He gets along with the other dogs in his foster home and has settled in to foster care really well. He is pretty smart and figured out potty training immediately. He whined just a little the first night or two he was in his foster home. Now he is totally quiet in her town house so may be one that would be a good choice for townhouse living. Doug is a really loving sweet guy that his foster home says is just the best dog.

Don't let Trouble's name fool you, he is actually very sweet. He just came in from the Birmingham Race Track but he never actually raced there. He was just moved there because the track adoption group there transports a lot of dogs from many tracks to adoption groups across the country. Trouble actually raced at Palm Beach, Naples Ft Myers and Sanford Orlando. He wasn't a good racer and only won 3 races so he was moved from track to track in hopes that he would find a place where he could be more competitive. He was just retired in March when that didn't happen. He is a pretty young guy that won't turn 3 until September 21st. His sire is the famous Kiowa Mon Manny and his dam is TNT Temptress. Trouble raced at 73lbs and is a friendly, happy guy. He was way too interested in chasing cats to be able to live with them. He did do fine with a yorkie and an Italian greyhound he met though so should be OK to live in a home with small dogs. What a cute puppy face this guy has!

Owen just arrived from the Bolton Farm in the Orlando FL area. He has been there since he retired from racing in March of 2014. Owen was a fantastic racer and was one of the fastest racers in the country when he was racing. Racing at the top AA level and winning Stakes Races at Southland in Arkansas, which is one of the top tracks in the country. Owen placed 2nd in the 2012 Southland Festival of Stakes Sprint. He also raced at Abilene KS, Birmingham AL and Sanford Orlando tracks during his career. Owen won his owners nearly $70,000 during his career of only 60 races. He was retired to stud so he could pass on his good genes to lots of future racers. Owen is ready to retire from that life now and be just a pet. We placed Owens brother Odell too when he retired from racing. He was also a star racer and the 2012 Bob Balfe Champ so good genes run in the family. Owen raced at 75lbs and is around that now. He is a beautiful rare blue brindle and is just stunning. He has a thick furry farm coat now from being outside a lot on the farm but that will become more sleek as he is in the house more. Owen seemed friendly when we visited the farm recently. They told us that Owen felt he was the top dog on the farm, and wasn't always tolerant of other males, so he may need a home without other male dogs. Owen will turn 8 on May 2nd. Owen passed his cat test easily without much interest in them. He does love kids and has several that come to the farm that he loves to play with. His favorite is a 3 year old.

Amy is a young girl that only had 4 schooling races and never an official race. She started out her schooling at Palm Beach and then was moved to Sanford Orlando for one more attempt before she was retired and sent to us. She is a small girl at just 56lbs. She just turned 2 on February 27th. Her sire is Fuzzy's Cannon and her dam is Amazing Run. She was too excited about the cat when she met it, so needs a home with no kitties. She did great with the small dogs she met so should be able to live with them. Amy also likes kids. This is a fun, happy girl that is very friendly. Since Amy is so young she does still have some playful puppy energy. This little girl is completely a fresh slate that will be a lot of fun for her future family to work with and mold into the perfect dog. Amy learns fast and has learned how to walk politely on leash since she arrived. She understands the leash now and that she can't bolt after squirrels she sees. She does not go potty on walks and waits until she gets back to her own fenced yard to do her business off leash. So she will need a home with a fenced yard. Amy loves to play with toys and will carry stuff around. During a recent construction project at her foster home she would find bits of tile or other construction stuff and carry it around and play with it. Her foster home has really fallen in love with her sweet quirky personality and say she will be one that is harder than most to part with when she finds a home.

Sparks just arrived from the Daytona Beach Race Track. She only had 6 schooling races there and finished so far back in every one of those that she never actually had an official race.  She is a very young girl that won't turn 2 until April 20th Sparks looks like a tiny little body builder. She is very short but stocky and raced at 61lbs. Her sire is Atascocita Gray and her dam is Backwood Barbra. She was initially interested in the cat until the cat slapped her, then she didn't want to get near the cat again. We think she would be trainable with a confident cat with supervision. Sparks did fine with an Italian Greyhound that she met. She is settling in to foster care very well. She whined to let her foster dad know that she needed to go outside from the first day in a home. She was initially nervous on stairs but figured them out within a few hours. Sparks doesn't like to go potty on leash, so probably will need a home with a fenced yard where she can pick the perfect spot to go and have her privacy. She does seem to pick up new things very quickly and doesn't seem to stressed by new things except for shiny floors. She is still learning that it is OK to walk on shiny floors and they do bother her to begin with. Her name fits her, Sparks is a happy, friendly, silly, girl that seems like she has a bouncy, fun personality. She does need some more work on her leash manners because she is very curious and wants to go check out everything.

Cat Tolerance:

Small Dog Tolerance:

Fostered by (location):
Scheffield Family Atlanta GA Area
Adoption Status: Adopted by the Tastad Family of Jacksonville FL 3/11/18

Kolby is a large 83lb male that had a very long racing career of 237 races. It is pretty rare for a greyhound to still be competitive after their 5th birthday and Kolby turned 5 on November 4th. He had a career that was much longer than most. He raced at Orange Park most of the time and raced at A and B level most of his career there, so was good. When he started to slow down a bit he was moved to Sanford Orlando Race Track in 2016 in hopes he would still be competitive there. He was retired after a little over a year there. His sire is Dutch Drummer and his dam is Dutch Sweet Kate. Kolby is a sweet, calm, loving guy.  He passed his cat and small dog tests easily without interest in chasing either. He was more interested in getting attention from the people than the cat or the small fluffy dog. He is exceptionally loving and good with people and a very well behaved guy that wants to please. He absolutely loves having other greyhounds around and loved going to an all greyhound doggy day care. We think he would do best in a home with another greyhound. He needs a fenced yard because he doesn't potty well on leash and likes to find that special spot and have privacy to do his business. Kolby has been in a home since late January but he just never was happy there. His owner has a number of other dogs that steal his beds or try to curl up with him. Kolby is good with the other dogs but doesn't seem to be sure what to make of the other breeds and just gets up and moves off the bed politely. The other dogs seem to be drawn to him and won't leave him alone. If his adoptive mom corrects the other dogs for taking his bed or bothering him, sensitive Kolby thinks he did something wrong and leaves the room. His adoptive mom has decided that although, Kolby is the perfect, loving, sweet, dog, he would be happier in a different home, one with greyhounds and fewer other breeds of dogs. At the track Kolby lived with a large pack of other greyhounds, but he had his own crate where he could eat and sleep undisturbed. He has been boarded with other greyhounds and he was happiest in a boarding situation around other greyhounds. He was reported to have a calming effect on the other dogs he was boarded with.

Spin came in from the Mardi Gras Race Track at the beginning of January. She raced 97 races in all and traveled from track to track a good bit. She also raced at Flagler, Naples Ft Myers, and Palm Beach and traveled back and forth between those tracks. Racers are often moved from track to track in hopes they will find a place where they are competitive when they are not winning at one track. Spin is a 64lb red girl that turned 3 on June 3rd. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is Electra Chick. Spin is sweet and likes people. Although Spin has loved the children she has met, she can be a little touchy about her space when laying down. She would do best in a home without small children that won't understand that. Spin is silent in her crate so may be a good apartment dog. She was a little overwhelmed at first by all the changes in her life and was a little nervous, but has settled in well now. She passed her cat test and small dog tests easily so should be able to live with either.

Heather had her last official race at the Sanford Orlando Track on June 17th. She also raced at Derby Lane and had a total of 52 races listed. Heather is a dark brindle girl that raced at 71lbs and turned 3 on October 29th. Her entire litter was named for the characters on the Netflix series House Of Cards. We have already placed her littermate Frank Underwood and her sister Skorsky. Her sire is KC and All and her dam is D's Honey Badger. Heather was a pretty good racer getting up to B level in June. She got a sore hip though so was pulled out of racing for a few months to give it time to heal. After her long break her trainers gradually got her back into shape for racing, but when she chased the lure again her hip got sore again. So now she has been retired for good. Her hip is fine for normal pet activities and she runs and plays without a limp now. Heather is a friendly girl that likes people. She sticks very close to her foster mom from the time she got to her house. She has paid no attention to the small dog in her foster home so should be OK to live with them. She was very interested in the first cat she met, but after the cat slapped her once, she wouldn't get near it again. She should be trainable with supervision with a confident cat. Heather likes kids a lot and goes right up to them and gives kisses. Even though she loves kids we think she should be placed in a home without small kids and their toys. We were told that she loves toys and will steal them and doesn't like to give them back. Heather was perfectly behaved at the vet and has settled in to her foster home really well. She is a very sweet loving girl.
